It sort of defeats the purpose of diesels if they cost so much to maintain that you could have run a petrol engine :(

What really irks me is that I've had a series of older vehicles and spent bucket loads of money fixing up inherited problems. This time I thought if I bought a new one and looked after it, serviced it religiously, it would be reliable. It was for a while but now I believe that the Td5 only has a service life of 150,000km.

This is a bit scary. Have we got a thread somewhere about experiences with high mileage td5's? Maybe we should start one and see if you've just been unlucky or everyone has problems ;)

310,000 and going strong (95 model). Minimal problems, particularly compared with friends new troopy, and other mates GQ's:p

Must be a unique Td5 if it's a '95 model. Pre-production prototype perhaps? :p

Also don't know how it compares to 110, but there isn't a hell of a lot of foot room for the rear passengers in a 130. Not 100% sure that you can put your feet in there without twisting them.

Rear space is a little cramped. Service history is the big thing. Get it checked and go for as much warranty as you can. Paying the higher prices won't always save you. Look at mine. $32,500 to buy and $5,000 - $6,000 this year in repaires. Took 12 months to find the real problems. When they go they are amazing. Oh with the purchase price mine did come with $25,000 worth of fruit on it.

also check the chassis, almost every heavily loaded ex-govt/stat authority 130 CC I've seen has a cracked chassis, roughly where the A frame cross member meets the side rails.

Hi Frenchie, what has actually happened to the engine? I know LandyAndy's has done around 200000km, but it had done that when he bought it.

I think sometimes you draw the short straw, i am sure there are TD5's with high Km's around, seems odd that a diesel engine would just pack it in. Matt
