Congratulations for your daughters achievement Dave.

Dave congrats on your daughters accomplishment, so what subject was it?
Thanks everyone for the congrats etc.:) I know 'proud parent' tales are the second most boring thing in the world after 'holiday photos' but I had to do it - I'm just so proud and pleased for her.:D:D:D
Her subject was English Extension 1 - studying crime fiction.
The ceremony was this morning in the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, a simple presentation by Carmel Tebbutt of a certificate (no cheques sadly) and a promise of an official photo to be posted out to us. What amazed me was the media coverage - I counted 5 TV crews and about ten news photographers. After the ceremony many of the students were interviewed individually by TV and newspaper reporters. Daughter was interviewd by Ch 7, Ch 9, the Sydney Morning Herald and 2 or 3 other papers.
A happy morning was had by all.:)
Again, congratulations to her - and to you as well - she obviously had a lot of parental support.
John
Thanks for the comment John but I certainly cannot take any credit - she did it all with her own hard work.
It's not quite over yet either, having just got home from Son's school award night I find we have reporters from three newspapers visiting us tomorrow morning for photos! Hooley Dooley! :D:D:D
You can't take it away from your daughter, but in almost all cases the parents have a lot of influence - not in actually helping them do the work, but just in the attitude to education. Very noticeable for example, in my parents - all of my father's brothers and sisters had tertiary education (before WW2!) despite the fact that his father was a farm labourer - in my mother's family she was the only one to even finish high school (she got a B.A.) despite the fact that her father was a tradesman and comparatively well to do - and the reason she did was because she became best friends with my father's sister at school and came under the influence of my father's mother.Quote:

Statistically this is actually the safest time of the year to be out on the roads. Their are usually less deaths per day than any other time during the year. The only reason the media go crazy about it is that there is nothing else for them to talk about. When there is more "news" they will go back to ignoring it.
Having said that, make sure you all bask in the glory of a truly great achievement :) You are all to be congratulated :) I can only hope I'll do as good a job of fostering my kids education.
Good stuff dave, where did she get the brains from? :D
