I have heard that Shannons cover this sort of thing
The comprehensive insurance is coming up for renewal.
As I have done a major conversion on my LR which I want to insure I need to change the insurer. Currently I am with GIO and their 4x4 insurance which covers my LR wherever I go but unfortunately not the modifications I did.
Does anybody know an insurance company which covers modifications which are validated by an engineer and RTA.
Many thanks.

Thanks for the Shannons hint - however they do not insure 4x4's if you use it offroad.
Also there is Australia 4x4 but they do the same as GIO - cover you for off road driving but no modifications are taken into consideration in case of a total loss.

shannons will but you need to be specific and get it defined in your individual policy with them...(dont speak to johny on the desk ask specifically for the supervisor and explain that you want to do some very specific things and write the contract in a specific way, if they get snotty just tell em thanks I'll go and get an RACQ contract.Originally Posted by Vida
FYI most major insurance agencies wont cover you if your off of or have been operating off of blacktop.
I had an exemption written into my clauses with RACQ which reads to the effect of. covered under use on any defined road, path, track or areas immediately adjacent to if used for the purpose of negotiating otherwise untrafficable terrain on said path or track.
defined road/path/track is explained elsewhere in the agreement as "anywhere listed on any map including GPS routes over open terrain" and the boss explained it to me as, "if you can show the agency a map with the route on it or a commercially available map or equivilent set with gps routes your covered. Your also covered if you have to leave the track in order to pass it. Your not covered if its competition work or your deemed to be intentionally exceeding the capabilities of the vehicle."
I told him i had a landrover and how do you exceed its capabilities, he smiled and pointed to his county in the carpark

geez Dave hook that bloke from shannons up with AULRO... sounds like a great contact to have![]()
Vida I'm surprissed. GIO covered mine with the mods and only upped the excess by $100 due to the 2 inch lift. They also claimed its covered on any track that is public access. With value they wen't with what I told them it was worth.Originally Posted by Vida
Yes, all that stuff is also written in my contract - but on page 2 the following is noted:
'Please note, vehicle can have any modification added to vehicle, there are no restrictions. In the case of a total loss or theft, modifications will not be included.'
This means, that I would get a market value of a Def 130 Dual Cab Ute.
I would be interested if you have the above clause as well in your contract.
