    Joy's of owning a great 4wd.

Had a really bad week. Busy with the business in the lead up to X-mas, and lost our beloved dog to a tiger snake in the house. Dog jumped on the bed to let us know something was wrong and 5 minutes later died. To be honest I never have felt so gutted.

We had two days off, x-mas and boxing day. Decided bugger it lets just go remote. Christmas morning packed the swag on the roof, loaded the surfboards and headed out for a 300km overnight trek along the coast, mostly 4wd all the way between walpole and augusta.

What a couple of days. I've had the Td5 defender now for about 18 months and even though it's offroad every few days i'm still learning it's capabilities and it still blows me away.

We had a few major dune systems to cross and they were too tight to get speed. Had to go the crawl up many, for over 100m. The effect of ETC is incrediable in these situations. Even though I have standard supsension clearance and articulation is more than adequate for deep sand rutts.

Spotted about three other cars. One happened to be a green 130 Td5 with a family that had Austrian number plates and had imported it over for a lap of Australia I think.

It's really on trips that you appreciate having a capable of 4wd, and those extra bits of kit come into use. Even the girl can't help but give the fender a good pat on the dash for a job well served.

No greater love has the dog. So sorry to hear that.
Nice, the Chancelor of the Exchequer, has developed a soft spot for the tractor though.

    Regards, Shorty.

Sorry about your dog. Know what it's like. Ours is too old and breathless to take anywhere these days. She misses the camping as much as we miss taking her.
The Defender, you'll love it more and more. The missus is just as taken with ours as I am.

Mine is pretty much permantly positioned on her own bed where the back seat should be in the crew cab.

sorry to hear about the dog, nice to take a break, although if my dog died of a tiger snake bite in the house, i'd be off too as the house would be burning down if the snake wasn't found!
