    Race to dakar on ABC

Anybody been watching the 'Race to Dakar' on the ABC tonight.
Trier BMW X5 support car broke a rear left wishbone of the suspension and they had to fly a new part out.
In a previous episode they had trouble with the electrics and didn't want to turn the car off as it might not start.
I wonder how a D3 landy would cope with the conditions.
The rase is interesting and I am supprised at the speeds they do in the desert.

I caught the show tonight for the first time.

I know I couldn't have ridden 40km let alone 400km with a dislocated thumb and two broken bones in my hand!

I'm guessing with all that gear bolted onto the car and on top of the car and in the car it is WELL over it's limits, especially on those roads !!! Surprised BMW agreed to it !!!

I've been watching it since it started.

It's a laugh... although it's a shame they swear all the time.

He actually used swearing well for the first time. He was flying in the support plane with his broken arms and he said if he had to fly they would be f$%#$ed. I turned to the wife and said now isn't that the truth! First time they really needed to swear

My wife was amused by the fact that it had English dialogue with English sub-titles --- and they wrote a censored "f*****" when he actually spoke the word.

I liked the comment ' we're doing 130, and these cars are blasting past us like we're standing still' ...All in blinding dust!! Craziness.
We had to share the special stages with bikes during the '92 Safari,( was it really 14 years ago???) and in some of the sandy / rutted desert stages we came over dunes to find a few flaked out riders just lying there pinned under their immense BMW's,KTM's or Cagivas.
The strain on them was unreal, getting off and running beside there bikes UP soft sand dunes for 100's of metres, in 40 degree heat for km after km...Crazy. I dips me hat to em.

Seeing some of those Bowlers ( Not another hat pun...) in the background doesen't half make me drool and wish I had the finances to do another OZ safari or even a Dakar...

Had to laugh at that bit where the wish bone went. He ask Keith (driver and owner of the Bowler surport team trucks) about 4 times that there must be a way to fix it. Keith is a mate of mine and i have known the bloke for years. You name it he has raced it, really really nice bloke. But he is a bit of a Broky of UK off roading. If he says it can't be fixed belive him because it can't be. He has done some real good in field repairs with landys and all sorts of off roaders in the past. He used to race landys for years. So he really knows his stuff. He used to race a Landy with a Lamboginy engine in it, and his sons had one with a TVR engine in and the other with a Massiarty engine
So laughed my head off when he started argueing with him about it
