    i think i done a whoopsie!!!!!

well i slunk back home friday, towing a trailer that i have sworn NEVER to take back to Fraser, and am having a total rethink on all our camping gear, went a little overboard and payed the price ,as Unca Dave said one party member melted in the soft sand ,twas me and thumper that as murphy once said ,if something can go wrong ,it will, and it did ,the clutch decided it had had enough and gave up the ghost at the ramp up to the rock pools after a rather soft run thru indian head,(sure that tractor had been ploughing that section on purpose )both dave and myself needed extraction via tractor, then a drag thru the bypass, only to find that half way up the ramp at the rock pools there was plenty of oomph from motor but no momentum from wheels and an awful smell eminating from the clutchso after finally getting back thru the bypass again (and another donation) was towed by the ,gulp nissan,(ouch,oh the shame of it all )back to camp site to recover.Over the next few wet days arrangements where made to have thumper towed to Eurong and a clutch flown in ,and with the assistance of Unca Dave and the Bro-in-law ,the V8 was removed and new clutch, pressure plate and bearing replaced, motor back in and home by sunset, not bad for an afternoons work ,cant say how much i appreciated all the assistance from those two guys, specially dave who rethreaded the spark plug hole after motor was back in
the trip after that was all good as dave said, the cape was beaut, even without the fish, and yes the day after dave left we found the pippy bank out front of camp and b-i-l caught FIVE whiting and a dart, and i caught TWO whiting(one was what the b-i-l called an elbow slapper!!) and swmbo caght one,and thanks for the advice on the jetty fishing pedro the b-i-l caught a nice mackerel about 600 mil long ,oh and dave said to say GDAY,cant remember if i said that or not
went to moon point and oh what a crappy track that was ,more ups and downs than a brothel, twas rutted to blazes, and not much for the effort,so have crossed that of the todo listtrip home was uneventful xcept finally got a wave back from a rangie headed to the island, got home last nite bout 8.30 and unloaded today and washed out the gear, back to the grindstone on monday, phooey

    That's no good Ferno

Did anyone get as far as Orchid Beach?

I'm going there with some family and friends in Easter. Do they sell fuel there and if so did anyone note how much for at the moment?

Any other fuel prices there while we're at it?

Just tossing up if I should take the V8 Disco or the V8 F250

F250 has more room for stuff and extra fuel but I'd rather take the Disco.

This is all a bit of a worry this. I've been to Fraser twice and never even looked like getting stuck. To read of all you chaps having so much trouble concerns me. Conditions must be tough over there at the moment.

I'm taking a group of friends over there in late March.

met one defender owner when down at eurong who has had a bit of a hard time of it... he paid 53k for his new fender 3 years ago and so far the warranty work has totalled 57k ( dam sure the figures were that way round but .....)

to say he was not a happy landy owner would be a mild understatement....
57k... youch. He must not have had it to drive very often...

Sorry to hear it Ferno. SOunds like an epic you fellas had, good effort doing all that work in a day !!!! (Cost a bit did it?!)

Mrs Vlad's dad would sympathize. He had to change the clutch of his series 2 on the beach MANY years ago.
