So when are you sending me my free winch![]()
I bought a 12000lb winch of of ebay for a total of $370 including the $75 freight. on its first outting I believed to had thought it had shed a tooth or two as it would pull then go slack and free spin.. quite cheesed off I contacted the supplier who said "stiff" No warranty given, more complaining and he said he would contact manufacturer.answer was sorry but stiff again..
I did some investigating and sent him a personally addressed letter to his home address saying if I didn't get a replacement I would personally return the winch with some KY gel if you get the driftWell with the shock of him realizing I knew his name and his home address he said he would send a replacement and he did (3 weeks later) I asked him where he wanted me to send the bust one and he said keep it.
I put the new one in today and dismantled the broke one to see what was wrong.. all that was wrong was a plastic washer which separates the planetary gears had dislodgeds and jammed up in a tooth groove causing the gear to derail a Millimetre or so causing the free spin... removed said plastic, replace washer, repacked with grease, tested it and works like a charm.... So now I have 2 x 12000lb winchs, cables, hooks, remotes and battery leads all for $370......alls well that ends well...

It makes you wonder what price the seller is actually buying them for if he is prepared to send out a replacement and let a "busted" one go without any investigation.
It also makes you wonder how robust they are and whether they will really pull 12000lb.Originally Posted by solmanic
A Warn 9000lb winch won't pull anything like 9000lb (which is probably a good thing because the cables they come with are only rated to 8000lb).
Well what price do you put on avoiding a 12000 lb winch being coated in KY Jelly and placed uncomfortably.......Originally Posted by solmanic

Good to hear of your fortunate situation yet again Dawg. But remind me never to sell you anything!!!!!!
Just out of interest. when you were going to lube up the winch, were you going to do the right thing and give the bloke a reach around at the same time?
Think about it, if you did it the bloke could come out of the dunny and honestly say that he should get a job as a cable layer![]()
