Either way I am not fussed. There is always bargains popping up.

Missed out on a 97 model with blown auto which sold for 2500.
    Yep that would be me

I did take a look and some pics of said Disco. It is only a 25min drive for us.

I havent gone back and made an offer yet as I was looking around for prices for a good 2nd hand 300, to see if its worth getting it.

Best price for a 300 I could find right now was one for $6,500 with 120k, new head gasket & Timing belt.....So think you may need to really do your homework if things are a little tight for you at the moment....you can buy this Discos from around $7k-$10k with RWC all done,no probs , nothing to do etc.

Also what would it cost to truck it up to Qld....not to many car transporters out this way and I think you would be lucky for one from Melbourne would come all the way out here (5-6hrs by truck) to pick up then on to Qld......by all means ask around, becasue Ive always wonderd what that would be worth

Did Tony tell you about all the rust around the Alpine windows, the other paint work issue's and the motor oil soaked rear cargo bay carpet? All the motor bar the block is in the back in cardbourd boxs & crank is sitting on top. And just between us I dont think it was maintained as well as it could have been....

But anyway Im not trying to put you off, just be carfull, I would hate to see a fellow group member be taken down

My feeling is that by the time you got it on the road with a new motor you could have bought a runner and saved a lot of time and hassle, if not money as well. Several LR wreckers have told me they make a lot more out of wrecking a vehicle these days than they are worth as a complete going concern. Good 300 TDi engines are not cheap to buy second hand, or rebuild.

    Ok thanks Amshaw.

I figured the back would be a shambles having engine parts there. I notice the parts in pictures. It also doesnt have any acc etc at all. Bog stock.

Tony is not wanting to go under 4k. I think and maybe I am being a bit harsh but I thinks its not worth more than 2.5 to 3K tops.

I missed out on a 97 with dud auto. It was sold for 2.5k.

Missed out on the RR which was here that had 300TDI in it with crook paint.

Like I said I am sure something will come up, its about timing, me having the money and the right vehicle coming up at the same time.

MMMM, maybe I should save a little more coin and looking for a goer. I am trying to sell my 97 Verada. Once it get sold I a may have a little more cash.

I know mine is a manual V8 but I bought it about 5 months ago for $7600 in Sydney. It is an immaculate 1994 5 door base model. Had a bunch of extras such as an ARB winch bar and rebuilt 8000lb Warn winch, factory mags, cruise control, lifted King springs and Bilstein shocks, UHF, upgraded ECU etc etc. All with only 156k on the clock. By far the best condition of any I looked at.

Even for a diesel (a downgrade in my opinion ) why would you buy a series 1 Disco that needs a new diesel engine for anything more than $1k? The seller will certainly complain but I bet he gets no other offers either.
Since you can't test drive them you have no idea what other problems are waiting for you.

Why don't you 'phone a couple of wreckers and describe it to them and say you want to sell it, and how much will they give you and will they come and get it or will you have to deliver. This should be educational if nothing else. Alternatively, 'phone a couple of motor auctioneers and do the same, ask what they think it would bring at Auction and what are their fees.

    Amshaw.

Yer hes not a bad bloke for a copper(joke).

I think he will be waiting a while I thinks. If it was in mint condition and just had some engine problem, it maybe worth it.

Cant rememeber but did you go down and look at it??

    Cheers

Yep some coppers are good blokes out of uniform, but he was from London (the Bells) so the two dont together to well in unifrom

I did in deed go for a look, crawel & climb over it, much to my wife disgust when on all fours looking under it....."Its only dirt you can wash it out!"

I did make an other , two in fact but he is firm at $3,500, but I did try and I said I will keep in contact as he wont sell it for that amount anytime soon....Like you say if it had no rust and all the other issues might be worth it but not as it stands....I will keep in contact for when he relises he wont sell it

Dont even know why I want another bloody LR.....I get the ****s when working on the one I have
