Would diesel engine oil react differently to petrol engine oil. As stated earlier I stored my car (Ford Cortina) for 4 years with the engine oil in, mind you it was new oil. I still have the car today - 30 years later.Quote:

Yes, used diesel oils are more corrosive than petrol oils, particulary if a full detergent oil has been in use.

I was just about to say that Unca Ho. Diesel fuel leaves a varnish behind, diesel oils have a detergent additive to break this down. Leave old oil in your engine, no more white metal on the main and bigend bearings.
In the old Navy parlance :- OM = oil mineral. a gp oil. for steam engines and gear boxes, etc.
:- OMD = oil mineral detergent. for IC engines.
This is of course old training (read WW2\Korea), but still current during the 60's and 70's. There will of course be the new improved since then, ahem.
S'funny that. The old S3 gives next to no trouble compared to the finnicky new fangled lectric operated stuff, I keep reading about.

With storing for long periods if it won't be started the preserving oil is the go. I knew an old lady who had an old porsche in her garage. It had been there for 15 years. It was on blocks, battery removed and preserving fluids had been put in the engine and cooling system.
hey George that old porsche still there? (old porsches are a hobby of mine)
where did they put the coolant?? untill late 90's all porsches were air cooled :p
