Would diesel engine oil react differently to petrol engine oil. As stated earlier I stored my car (Ford Cortina) for 4 years with the engine oil in, mind you it was new oil. I still have the car today - 30 years later.

Just curious - not very clued on Diesels

Yes, used diesel oils are more corrosive than petrol oils, particulary if a full detergent oil has been in use.

    cheers

    Thumbs up

I was just about to say that Unca Ho. Diesel fuel leaves a varnish behind, diesel oils have a detergent additive to break this down. Leave old oil in your engine, no more white metal on the main and bigend bearings.

In the old Navy parlance :- OM = oil mineral. a gp oil. for steam engines and gear boxes, etc.
:- OMD = oil mineral detergent. for IC engines.

This is of course old training (read WW2\Korea), but still current during the 60's and 70's. There will of course be the new improved since then, ahem.

S'funny that. The old S3 gives next to no trouble compared to the finnicky new fangled lectric operated stuff, I keep reading about.

Hmm. 2 years storage? Got a relative you can trust with your girl?

    Shorty.

I think this might be your best option
After all if you are not worried about the money sell it , put it in a savings account and come back to it in 2 years and buy a newer 110 for the same amount you sold your one for, but with out the hassle of storage, or the worry
After all is it going to be definately 2 years or like most things can it drag on to 3 years, like these things tend to

Beat me to it. Unless you are very attached to this vehicle I would sell it. What are you going overseas for? Is it possible the trip will be shorter or longer?

If selling is not an option for you, (but I agree with the guys it could be one of the best options both finacially and time wise) I'd be talking to a long term storage place to get a garage or such to store it in. These business' do a fair bit of long term car storage, definately replace all lubricants with the correct storage lubricants and drain the tank. Be prepared to spend a bit of time and money getting your vehicle back onto the road and registered after the storage interval.

Sell it and I will invest the money.

Although I am starting to doubt we will ever see the new Defender in Oz.....

With storing for long periods if it won't be started the preserving oil is the go. I knew an old lady who had an old porsche in her garage. It had been there for 15 years. It was on blocks, battery removed and preserving fluids had been put in the engine and cooling system.
