    6x6's

A bit of trivia. The 6x6's in Kal are consecutive chassis numbers which would suggest there cant be too many of the civvy models built. The prototype at SASR also has the narrow front axle and possibly, but must check, the standard front bonnet and firewall.

Or just that they were bought new there as a pair by one purchaser? But regardless, I don't thing there were very many made - even during their heyday I never saw more than a few total, although I probably was not where they would have sold most - mine sites etc.

    Chassis are SALLDMAZ1BY565595 and 6
Engines are 749006 and 749010. the lower number began with an 1800l water tank on it for a shire in Newcastle where the owner finally bought it at auction and the other was in Darwin but where prior I dont know. Another odd coincidence in Kalgoorlie is the first two Discoveries brought into Australia for the Melbourne Motor Show, 91 I think, had consecutive numbers 1 diesel, 1 petrol and were both traded in in Kal in the same weekat Gold City LR

Heres where a few of them went.

From memory we put this one into service around early 1988.

    G'day Folks

There were also several used to tow special trailers around for the Bi-Centenial in 1988 they were later sold off, most went to Govt Depts and similar, the diesels were the test beds for the Perentie Project, one of the ones in England is a narrow frame unit, the other full Perentie specs

    cheers

The white one is partly in tassie still. The boxes and tray etc are still at landyworld, but the vehicle itself was sold to a buyer in cooktown from memory, and he drove it off the boat to cooktown i'm told

For some reason I can't upload photos today

But if you go to www.tradingpost.com.au and type in Landrover, there is a perentie camper for sale (under campers) and a range rover 6x6 (lazy axle I think) with a crane attachment for sale (under farm machinery)

    Cheers
