I wouldnt use 50:1 oil unless it is specific Stihl or Husky 50:1 oil,not sure about the Husky but the Stihl manual states only use 50:1 if using genuine 2 Stroke oil,if not use 25:1.

Finally got it started!!! The end of the choke tab had fallen out of the carby lever while in transit, so pulling the choke out wasn't doing anything. Now that is sorted it starts very easily, and runs like a champ!
Will run it on 50:1 from now on though...
Verry happy![]()

Unlikely as 25:1 is twice as much oil as 50:1 most likely just oil up the plug and it will stop.
All our small gear at work (chainsaws/brushcutter/small 4 strokes) all run on 100:1 with Optimol oil, never had an engine sieze, we have a mix of Stihl, honda, dolmar, komatsu plus some others. We have been using Optimol for around 15 years now.
I've been running it in an old McCulloch brushcutter (about 15 years) and the Rover 4 stroke (B&S) mower thats 20 years old.

It is actually better for the motor to run at 50:1, the worse thing is a little extra smoke, the plug should handle it.
More oil is better with unleaded fuel and it is more drier burning, but unfortunately only has a shelf life of approx 3 months
Hi Bushie
Whats this Optimol oil???? It must be synthetic to run 100:1
I use a shell semi synthetic sports 2 stroke @25:1 and PULP fuel, pretty good.A mate was running 100:1 synthetics in his trials bike and also putting the same thru his chainsaw and whipper snipper, got to love the smell of the exhaust!!!!

I think a few of you people have some issues with your math![]()
25parts fuel to 1 part oil
50parts fuel to 1 part oil
25:1 will foul a plug before 50:1 as it has twice as much oil, as Bushie has already noted
2 stroke fuel's richness is directly proportional to the amount of oil added
I.E. The more oil in the mix, the richer the mix
25:1 is richer than 50:1
25:1 has more oil than 50:1
25:1 will foul a plug before50:1
50:1 will sieze a motor before25:1 but wont![]()
Andrew,
It is a synthetic (German IIRC) before you use it you have to make sure the tank/carbys etc have no 'other' fuel in them as there is a chance it may react and the fuel could gell. Like I said we've been using it for years with no ill effect at all. Its probably saved a few engines as nobody has to remember to use '2-stroke', all the fuels are the same.
Will try and remember tomorrow to find out where we get it from.
