defender build quality

Rolls and Bentley are also handmade !

The Defender could not be handmade any better, to be other than what it is. It is for the likes of US, not them !
I still believe that the Defender is the best looking 4x4 ever made or ever
will be made.
I want the new one when it is released.

I still love my 3 door Disco tho and will never part with it.
It is in astonishing original condition and the interior is virtually unmarked.
It is great off road as it is, so I want to keep it original.
If I dont have to go anywhere on a particular day, I just go for a drive around the block in it.
I love my Disco !

I expect that the Defender, when I get it, will have the same effect.

Its good fun when in the shopping car park, to walk around a Patrol or Cruiser and look like you are admiring it. Then you say to the Bloke,
" betcha sorry now, that cha didnn buy a Landrover, eh "
Gets them going and doesn't spoil my day !
I take the view that, what they dont know wont hurt them.

Ever driven a Hummer in the rain?
They leak too so it's not just Fenders, But they are also a purpose built multi purpose vehical with interchangeable panels.

I have very fond memories of driving through terential rain in my S2a with the wipers the size of toothpicks and more water running down the inside of the windscreen than outside but I still enjoyed it 95% of the time as it still had a good heater even on 40+deg days.

Fenders as I have said before in other threads are for people who go 4wding all the time, Plumbers and Builders who need reliable heavy duty transport and comparing it to even a cruiser troupy isn't doing the defender justice as a troupy is not half the 4wd and not half as versitile as a defender.

Don't worry about the idiosincracies, wear your rain coat and gumboots while driving, no one expects something that boxy to be able to do 100km/h so if your not comfy with the steering make the over take and with the engine noise against the wind noise and road noise it just means you don't need a stereo as you wouldn't be able to hear it anyway.

When all else is accounted for, go buy a rangie or disco as they are nearly as good off road but much nicer for the minister for finance to get her head around, cheaper too.

What they say in that article is completely true. We buy them for totally different reasons. The brand stands for adventure, and the Defender tops that list in the adventure department.

I had a Wrangler, and maybe 50% of wrangler owners waved at me. It is still 100% with defender. Every other defender driver I have seen on the road over the 2 years since owning one has always waved, some going out of the way to make sure I saw them, if they could not quite get a stright view of me.

People that climb everest dont expect a warm comfy bed, people that treck to the arctic circle don't expect an electric heater at the end of the day, and people canoing down some river in borneo do not expect a 5 star resort, and defender owners dont expect to have dry feet after a day behind the wheel in the rain.... 8-)

Attention Moderators,

I want this thread banned/ locked immediately to prevent me from loosing it and buying the very next county or defender I see, and suffering at the hands of the wife forever.....

The only saving grace is I have 3 at work ATM and I can test drive them when I finish working on them......BUT THEY ARE NOT MINE!!!!

You luck bugger Justin, I only fix Big mongrel mowers and Landrover doesn't make Mowers and my wifes been taking the Disco to work so Ive been only driving it on the weekends and Driving the dreaded Jeep during the week.

Might have to take a pay cut and go back to working on cars and get a job with my mate who works mainly on Landies.

In owe household we owned a very nice 96 300tdi auto disco with low km's, and a batted 96 300tdi duel cab 130 with high km's. then when I was informed that one would be sold to make way for a Chrysler Voyager for our expanding family. Now we only have the one 4x4 I wanted ............The 130 Defender......... of course:D :D

When I was having a few problems recently I was tossing around ideas, whether I should get rid of the Defender and buy something else.....

my wife said "but I like driving around in an agricultural vehicle, it's a real 4wd" :cool:

When I had my first Landie, a SIIA, my best mate bought a SIII which lasted until he met his girlfriend who is now his wife. Lasted about a week before he bought a Telstar. :eek:
