With Bigjon on this. How about electricians and fridges who come out are the for 10mins, charge an hour plus travel (sorry minimum call out) Charge $30 to replace the filter material in a small aircon (which costs $4.50 wholesale)

Anyone want to bring up the subject of plumbers? Lawyers? 5 min Dr consults that are charged as 15 mins etc etc.

Overheads - have a think about the amount of land the "average" dealership takes up.. on prime land. How would you like to be paying the floorplan (finance charges) on most, if not all the vehicles you see sitting there? (you didn't think the manufacturers sent you stock for free did you?) How would you like the insurance bill on the stock alone!

And of course you want to see all the available models/transmission options, trim and colours don't you! You expect to go in and buy the part you want (I know there are exceptions to this) and most of the time they are in stock (In a serious franchise). The dealers have to pay Land rovers price on parts. (Again you didn't think all those parts sit there at Land rovers cost did you?)

There are some bad eggs, ripp off merchants and all the rest of it. If you want cheap parts go buy a Holden..... And if you believe that you haven't bought Holden parts for a while either!

I have no problem with the dealers out here in the Desert, Big John and his mates at LR have pretty reasonable prices for the desert so have no drama's in paying them, maybe its just because its a small town and reputation is everything, guess you guys in the big city would have it different there cos they don't give a %$#@#$ if you come back
    Cheers from the Desert

Oil in the Harness, suspension knock, transmission clunk, engine oil leaks, exhaust manifold leaks, centrifugal oil filter stripped bolts, a/c leaks, door leaks, wouldn't trade it for the world

Additional to the above is the overheads + oncosts associated with labour . Quite often the total of the 2 is 100%.

E.G. I work for $40 per hour (as in thats the rate i get paid) but the cost of superanuation, sick leave, annual leave, leave loading, safety gear, etc etc etc etc is another $40 per hour. Total Employment Cost (TEC) $80 per hour.

Simple maths. Now the trick is the rate of recovery.

The dealer I have dealt with in Perth has been pretty good. Servicing costs are no more expensive than the LR specialist I use as an alternative.

However they seem to be hamstrung on parts prices. This was apparent when my fuel pump had to be replaced. They were asking $1600. When I pointed out that I could literally fly to the UK and pick one up myself, genuine part, cheaper, they agreed that it was silly but that was what they had to charge.
