I didn't think it was worthwhile trying to correct a farmer who told me about 30 years ago that the Landrover was pretty good around the farm except for the fact that you couldn't have 4wd in low range. He reckoned that you could select 4wd in high range, but it automatically disengaged 4wd when you selected low range. I think he had been driving LRs for about 10 or 15 years.

Speaking of 4x4ing...

Was up at Imbil SF (camping at the deer farm). They have a plaque up there for people who have climbed red hill - a very steep, very long track that runs along a knife-edge ridge at the top.

The track is loose and rutted, and we could only make it about 1/4 of the way at best (too steep to pull 2nd low, and too much wheelspin in 1st low) - But we drove to the top via another track, then drove down.

The property owner didn't believe we had driven down it, he said it was impossible, that it was so steep we would have been standing on the windscreen the whole way!!!

At the same time, he also tried to convince us that everyone who had successfully made it up (all toyotas of course) had driven up in high range!!!

and a satellite tv receiver dish...
and another camry just in case

So where's this track? Sounds like a future AULRO trip

Where abouts is that? Have you got any waypoint or track data?
I've got the Northern section of the Imbil SF on an OziExp map if you want it. Plus more of the surrounds.

Sorry mate, no coordinates. You leave the deer farm and head east, then take the first SF entrance on the LHS. Drive along the main track until you have passed the plantation pine on the LHS and then take the next track on the left. Follow that track and it will take you to the base of red hill.

Would be interested in the map. What do you do up that way?

Okay I'll have to go for a quick drive. I can post up the data when I'm done. Just to the track of course. Not going to do anything silly on my own :angel:

If you PM me your email I can send the maps to you. Alternatively your postal address and I'll do up a DVD for you at the same time as I do Incisor's.

I work in a family owned sawmill in Imbil. Sometimes I think 'I went to uni for this?' but then I go 4wding for work and it's all okay :)
