    Geometry Question

    Holy crap a legitimate work related question for AULRO.
    I am desigining an insert for a circular fountain with a central circular pillar(think of a donut). As it is prexisting I only have the circumference of the centre pillar to work out the radius and diameter of the pillar. So if circumference of a circle = 2x pi x radius, can I calculate the radius if I know the circumference by going
    radius = Circumference divided by 2 x pi.
    It works on a calculator but would like to know before I order the fabrication.
    PS. Our engineer has never heard of pi.

    Yes - r=c/2.pi

    also diameter = c/pi

    You need to sack your engineer - does he actually have a qualification of any sort or is "engineer" his job title?

    Unbelievably scary, but not unheard of unfortunately - where is his/her degree from?

    In 4th year of my degree, one of my fellow students asked me (in all seriousness) how to calculate the (c.s.) area of a trapezoidal channel. I have no idea how she had managed to pass the ist 3 years of the degree.

    Hey - I got my degrees in QLD!

    But that said - one of the guys who graduated with the lowest marks went off to work in country QLD as he thought that was the only place he would be able to find work...

    I've got a good one for you
    A friend (who is fond of Rovers) graduates from Mechanical Engineering and is asked by a fellow student to help him service his car. So he shows him where the dipstick, sump plug, filler, radiator, washers, and other things to check are.
    1st question the other guys asks is;
    "Why is the dipstick off to one side, not straight down the middle"
    This from a freshly graduated Mechanical Engineer .

    That would never happen here, Pedro!

    To tell the grader driver what to do, the Shire engineer would have to leave his office!
