Gee the airfreight is cheaper? and quicker too, definately I would go airfreight.
I am looking at getting a pair of front seat foams from Exmoor trim in the UK. Price looks reasonable at around $60 for the pair - but freight is around $80 for airfreight and $112 for sea freight - which is ridiculous!. Anyone got any suggestions?

What about Royal Mail. I get a lot of stuff sent over via this method for a good price. Havent tried anything as big a seats yet though.
Already looked at that - Airmail is more expensive than the airfreight, and the sea freight figure I quote is actually surface mail. I have checked the Royal Mail website, and the costs given by Exmoor would appear to be correct. The problem is that for relatively large and heavy items the mail prices escalate very rapidly.

God, what are they made of? I thought you said seat foams? I get taps and dies, machine shop supplies atc., from the USA by air mail and that sort of money brings quite a heavy parcel of metal. I must admit that I no longer buy anything from UK & Europe not because of the transport cost but because the asking prices are over the top compared with USA.

surface mail does come by sea.........i had my mum post a range rover sport model over for ian that i brought him for his birthday from the uk, i asked her to send it airmail........well it got sent surface, it cost me £40 to send which was more than what the model cost and it took 3 and half months to turn up and when i called them to ask were it got to they said sorry surface mail is not tracked!!! to which i replied well how do i know whether it is lost......they replied weeellllllllllll you dont really...
trust me do not do surface mail its not worth it

I am going to Germany in a week, so could bring them back in my luggage if you could get them to me. But then getting them from Perth to NSW would probably cost a packet as well.
Thanks for all the offers of help, but I have told Exmoor to go ahead with the cheapest they can find - around 35pounds (foams are 28 pounds). But this sort of thing does give you pause about buying from the UK. As Brian mentioned, US mail prices are a lot cheaper - found that out with getting overdrive parts, although these probably were a lot lighter - I can't remember exactly.
