Yes I am trying to repair my driver side one at present. It must have got wind of this thread and decided that not being able to unlock from inside or outside is a very good security feature

Compulsory in WA to have an immobilisor. I reckon not too many people would be interested in stealing it anyway - high speed chase perhaps?

If I'm parking in a dodgy area I put the transfer lever in neutral. No way a scum bag car thief would work that one out.

This thread has got me thinking, now that my handbrake actually works- and really well, I am mulling over making a bracket and locking device- maybe a window bolt type that locks the handbrake on.
I know that a determined thief would back off the adjuster, but if it was locked on tight, even that might not be "do able".
Nice and cheap, would work on the 4 wheels too

I use a "Krooklock" and welded up the backing plate when I saw a demo of how a screwdriver and hammer disable them in 3 sec flat.!!

My TDi Discovery has a switch under the dash (done by previous owner, bit of an obvious spot though). When switched, the motor turns over but won't start. I haven't looked to see what it connects/disconnects, but I'm guessing a fuel solenoid somewhere? anyone else done this?

I made up a clutch and brake lock from a piece of flat ht steel strap and two long shanked hardened straight through padlocks. drill holes in the strap to accomodate the pins of the lock, put the U part of the locks under the clutch and brake peddle arms and through the strap steel, bung the locks on and pull them up tight and bing jingo they are locked together. there is even a small cut out in the back of the peddle arms to fit the U of the locks. bolt cutters cant get to the U so VERY VERY hard to defeat. a knock of of very expensive UK ideas and cost around $100 with good quality locks. Paint the strap a bright colour as a deterent for the would be crook so they see it before even breaking in. If you're really paranoid, slip some heavy chain around the strap and up to the steering wheel, again with hardened locks. crooks go for easy targets, make yours a little harder than others and you'll be OK

In NSW at least, it is illegal to leave a dog in a parked car.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the category of cars least likely to be stolen is "full size four wheel drives" and I would think that of these Landrovers would rate at the bottom for most thieves, if only because of perceived poor performance and unfamiliarity.

Hey this is a bit unfair! They only sell 300 defenders a year, so even if everyone of them got stolen we still wouldn't register a blip
