As a member of REMLR - Registry of Ex Military Land Rovers, I'll put my hand up to organize the military side of it.
If we could get the army Land Rovers involved along with all the ex army Series 1, 2 and 3's floating around, we could come up with an impressive display.
I think the idea of a small entrance fee to cover costs would not deter spectators as long as it remains around $5 per adult or $15 per family.
Got a possible farm/block site in the Northem area,dont think it has a ofroad drive/track on it and the owners might not whant the ground torn up before winter.
But it has shade and good camping spots?????
if your mate has offered that's great a few "irons in the fire" are always good
As I suspected the AHG Driving Centre isn't part of AHG, They are the naming sponsor. that is how the deal works on their ads (those in WA will know)
if you buy a new or used car from any dealer in the group (WA), and you are under 25 you get a free defensive driving course.
Ok, I have the name of the Marketing & Projects Manager, but haven't contacted him yet. I believe anything organised i.e. use of the premises including the 4WD track would be at a cost, which is understandable that is their business.
Reading the LROCWA forum there appears to be interest there too (Thread started by Landy Andy), and possibly alternative idea's.
Should I approach the Driving Centre on our behalf yet to see if the have catered for something like this before, or should we wait until we have more of an idea what people really want/expect?

I have sent an Email to the secretary of WA LROC suggesting that they could take on such an event,Ive also suggested trade displays,a swapmeet and Demo Landies.
Bradtot has shown interest and Im sure he will make plenty of noise on our behalf(WONT YOU BRAD)
Ive mentioned in the email that Im sure we could round up a swag of WA AULROian volleys to help out.Unfortuneately cant get to their next meeting,I will be down in Esperance relaxing catching fish landying:D :D :D :D Perhaps if you can make it Phil,Brad could have you along as a guest.
I spoke briefly to George Little at Southern Landrover today.He didnt think that the company would come at sponsorship dollars for a meeting.I went on to explain the AHG idea,with swapmeet,trade displays and demos etc he seemed to think they may be interested.As it stands we need to get some sort of solid plan together and approach them with a proposal,he will introduce me to the necessary managers.He thought we were onto a good idea!!!!!

Yes Andy I will be asking, however we are not having a meeting due to easter falling on that day and we could not change days due to the hall hire and others that use it so it will be at the meeting in may.Quote:

Why not organise a Landrover run to a WA icon which is central to WA.
I'm thinking Mt Augustus as it is THE Biggest Monolith in the world and dwarfs Uluru. It is often forgotten. The surrounding attractions include Karijini and Ningaloo so participants can attend on the way to other tourists meccas???
The drive in can be as hard or as easy as you like depending on your preference. The camping and accomodation can be varied to peoples tastes and the local station owners are very friendly bunch.
I am on leave next April so can go anywhere.

Maybe if it was a one or hopefully at least a two day event there could be a follow on run afterwards for those who would like to continue on.
I see your point about easier travel for people across the state but if you were planning on going to the Eastern States event it would still be closer.
Andy: I hope LROCWA gets involved or organises it too I'm sure others here will put some effort in. I will if it means we have a WA event. I think an established organisation will find it easier to enrol assistance from other organisations.
If they don't/won't/can't we'll just have to nominate someone from AULRO, (thanks for the nomination by the way:eek:) to organise something.
I guess we'll just have to hang on a month or so and see what happens. I think it will still help for suggestions to continue to be added here for things that can/could be enjoyed on the day or for likely locations for the event.
It crossed my mind to approach a local councils to use the Gnangara pine forest at either whiteman park or wanneroo as they both have dedicated ATV areas already and maybe not mind as much if the ground gets churned up as its has tracks etc already.
I would not approach the councils unless LROCWA decided not to get involved and there aren't any other more suitable locations/areas.
The forests are reasonably central and what better location to look at a Landy than in it's natural environment :D
Does anyone know who owns the land that the night owls event was held on? Would it be big enough?
I hope this event sees fruition.
i'm actually in the process of organising training with dtec for all our employees up on-site, maybe, seeing hows the company i work for is going to be spending thousands putting people through the course's i could try sweet talk dtec into getting a deal or two for the weekend we're there, have a contact who i'm dealing with who is fairly high up on the food chain so maybe i just slip in a comment of our plans and see what happens? let me know as next trip down i'll be going in to organise an account with dtec, i am now a qualified occ.first aider, fire warden training will be completed before the event, and qualified for search & rescue so insurance wise we should of met the criteria for an organised event (hopefully), maybe just require a company to lend the items needed (oxy-viva, defib, extra extinguishers, etc) majority of other first aid eqiupment i can get hold of free.
