Let's not forget that lockers are more mechanically sympathetic than open diffs.
It's really hard to explain to people my personal requirements for lockers but I will happily show anyone interested the video :) Let's not forget that last trip we broke a prado diff and it was a potentially difficult situation. I really don't want that to happen to me.
Yeah sorry I should have mentioned that.....they are stronger, so even if you dont need them.........you need them.:p
I don't intend to do the sort of driving I used to do in the PIG in my 110 but I'm still going to fit a locker to the rear and an LSD to the front, along with maxi axles and flanges all round.

in saying that the previous owner of my rig installed twin lockers that the cheapest way to installl them, i doubt i would have the spare $$$ to install if they were not already fitted
In a Disco or Deffy with open diffs and no TC I think a locker or LSD mod in the rear is a good idea.
I wonder why LR never installed LSDs in the rear of 90s D1s and Defender? They were fairly advanced in other ways. ( eg coil springs and disc brakes ). Toyota were putting LSDs in their Hiluxes from around that time. ( crappy that wore out the clutch plates ones but at least not a completely open diff ).
Interestingly MR noted that the pinion bearings were failing and replaced them. This is the second set in 22k :eek: Clearly I have to have a think about what is causing this :eek:
