    hmmmm good question,

i find the cynicism more than a little disturbing and very disappointing i have to say

i really cant remember having come across an easy way of doing it and i think i can say in all honesty i have never bothered nor needed nor entertained the idea of trying to check someone elses personal message box, but i do have a crap memory as anyone that knows me personally will attest.

if i had too i am sure i would need their login and password to do it easily. getting the login is no problem, the password is another story, i would have to change to get it as they are encrypted and unreadable unless i run it through a password cracker and that could take days to crack depending on he strength of the password.

i could always do a mysql dump and go searching through the data and try and piece it together but that would be one hell of a job....

so, the plain english answer is, yes, i am sure i could if i really wanted to, but it would be one hell of a job to do it without the assistance of the message box owner.

Guys if its a problem to you you probably be better just to get over it.
As a System Admin I can assure you that most things are possible it just takes time and effort.
As a System Admin I can also assure you that we usually have better things to do with our time.

i didnt say it was a problem
i feel it is a valid question and if so maybe a warning should be put on the bottom of your pm page to say that pm,s could be veiwed by the administrators only as a disclaimer

and inc im sorry if you feel offended by that remark it was not meant to be cynical but some people can be easily offended than others

in the real world disclaimers are utterly useless, they make legal departments feel good and have no legal standing from what i have seen in the results of the few legal cases that have attempted to use them, it is sheer wishful thinking it appears.

there was nothing wrong with the question.

that cant be said for some of the other comments you made, i as have others, find the assertions disturbing considering there is absolutely nothing here for them to be based on in my experience.

It's a personal message. As has been said, anything is possible. The CIA and ASIO could be monitoring this site (and if I was ASIO I WOULD be monitoring - not because anything happens here but because the profile of someone who MIGHT perpetrate a terror act suggests they are "into" military stuff, which is discussed here.)

i dont know whether a truthfull answer will be given or how we could judge it,s truth
Yes, a truthful answer will be (was) given, and the way to judge its truth is to see how it agrees with other things you know to be true. Does it make sense given the way a database works? That the site uses commercial software to run? That Inc has too much to do in his day already without trawling ALL the PMs for slander?

but i think it has never been asked befor so some of us might want to know the answer
I've asked it before, and was given the same answer, by different Mods. That was when I had a discussion via PM with someone no longer on the site - a totally unmonitored discussion, I might add.

Rangieman, at times the site might feel restrictive - it's because it's public. It's not a discussion among close friends in someone's backyard - it's a forum open to anyone. How many Yahoo slurp spiders did we have the other day? 450?

But the PM section - it's private. I've got no axe to grind on this one, just experience.
