From todays paper. Looks like another unnecessary control about to be put on us. We need to fight this.
"VicRoads is investigating a scheme for bullbar permits, which will be finished during the year."

130's rule
this comes and goes about every 6 months .....
even if anything does come in it is highly unlikely to be retrospective....
...and most of us who do actually go bush in our 4Wds shouldn't have any truoble getting a permit. ...
its only the Toorak tractor owners need worry ....
so can we have a buy back on bull bars that way i might get a nice new plastic one![]()
Just another excuse for me to partake of my favourite sport - anarchy.
I don't licence dogs, I don't pay for permits for anything that the permit money does not get returned to in some way. For example if a fee or permit is required to camp at a place where no facilities are provided in return, I don't pay.
I for one wouldn't bother getting a permit for a 'roo bar because the money will go into General Revenue, not to road safety campaigns. If and when I got caught I just wouldn't pay the fine. I've done it before. I'm just a cranky old bugger and I can't abide bad laws.
And don't even get me started on "Aboriginal Lands" permits.
Another one here...
If I get started on people doing 4wd bashing you will never stop me.
It's as if they have nothing better to do than complain about things they dont have.
I have seen proof that a pedestrian thats been hit by a bull bar at 60kmh is just as dead as one thats been hit by a Commodore at 50kmh.
It was on Burwood Hwy about 13 years ago out the front of Knox City and the first school girl that was hit by a Pajero at 60kmh as she went to run accross the road from her prom and the second was another girl that went to her aid did the same thing. They were both drunk and their school hasnt had a prom since.
My Oldman was also an ambo and has said that it doesnt matter if your hit by a car or a truck, if you survive your more than likely going to live through a life of brain damage or unrelenting pain.
The do gooders and the Uni graduates that think they know what life is about because a lecturer told them so really have no idea about the real world and just want to get them selves a name for doing something.
As far as 4wd's being dangerous because of bull bars, they should just do the sensible thing and make all cars get rwc every year like in NSW and that would sort out all the other 2wd crap that the single mum brigade drive around in.
If people cant afford to rwc their cars then they shouldnt be driving them on the road as all vehicals require maintenance but very few (other than bullbar wearing 4wd) owners do regular maintenance on their cars.
We need to stop generalising and putting all of one type of car owner in the one basket and seperate the bad from the good.
Bullbars are life savers not life takers no matter what anyone says and if anypne wants to use my veiws anywhere (un edited) they are more than welcome.

Whilst you're all on you soapboxes about 4wd legislation issues spare a thought for those of us in the remote areas who want a decent 4WD that is going to hold together is easy to service and is comfortable. Not one that is basically aimed at the Toorak tractor mob who think off road is a "drive through the gates of the national park" (can't remember who used that song lyric).
So as well as governments legislating these things out we also are faced with them being more and more aimed at city driving. So why don't the legislators make it simple and force the manufacturers to make them for what they really advertise them for - an off road vehicle.
Also please take care what you say about the Aboriginal land permits. I know first hand it can be a pain sometimes to obtain permits but the caverlier attitude of "I don't give a stuff and can drive where I like" only makes it more difficult for everyone.
