    Series 2a

What would a series 2a be worth.
It's a shorty ute with original engine. The thing is rough, dents, holes and rear lights are gone along with the front indicators. Roof is heavily dented. Think there is also hole on passengers side through the fire wall. Looks like something is missing.

Late 2a (head lights on the wings)?

Or early with headlights on the radiator panel?

Later ones are worth more in my opinion, but it sounds rough as!

Early one. Supposedly everything is there and if he put the carby back on and put a battery in it will start. Rear lights had been replaced with non landy at some stage.

It is very dependent on condition - the 2a is not yet rare enough to gain in value from rarity. Without seeing it it is very difficult to put a price on it - if it is a goer, and has relatively rust free firewall and chassis, start somewhere round $2000 - 3000, and deduct the costs of replacing/straightening panels, replacing lights, springs, shockers, tyres, swivels, brakes, upholstery, wiring etc. It is very easy to end up with a pretty low value, and I have seen ones fitting your description change hands at auctions from $15 to $500, rarely to $1200.

He claims he spent $300 getting the correct carby so I think it will be to $$$ for me anyway. I would rather a LWB series 3 or early coil sprung anyway.

I'm sure he spent that on a carby - they're expensive. But as any vehicle restorer or even owner should know, just because you spend $X on replacing ABC on a car, it does not add $X to the value; in most cases it adds nothing, just makes it easier to sell! Almost regardless of the vehicle, the restoration costs will always exceed (often by very big numbers) the value of the restored vehicle.

Up this way, a rough runner with rusty firewall and chassis is worth about $200. If its rusty and doesnt run, its not worth anything. If the firewall and chassis is good and its original but still needs mechanical work and general restoration, maybe $1000. Fully restored and in top condition 4-5k.

I would happily pay $3000 + for an original unrestored, no rust example of a late (70 to 72?) 2a.

Running or not. If it's all there I would pay it. Running around trying to find bits and pieces is half the trouble when you're restoring cars.

If it's all there and not running, the battle is almost won.
