I thought I might add it to the stuff in the Disco going to Derby.
Speaking of which, I boooed it in for a timing belt change today. The last was 60,000km ago.
The local LR specialist can do them in about an hour. Mine has taken nearly all day. The bolt had been Loctited in. It hadn't been shortened so it had obviously notbeen clamping the harmonic balancer.
The harmonic balancer was Loctited and needed a lot of heat and lots of work with the puller to get it off. Scratch one balancer, new one required.
After removal, it could be seen that someone had centre punched all over the crankshaft nose to "expand" it - a bit like we used to do on pistons years ago when we had them knurled.. That plus the Loctite was really holding the balancer on. The keyway had been hammered a bit and the key was epoxied in.
Then we couldn't get the lower toothed pulley off. It, too, was Loctited and need a lot of heat to remove.
So after some hours, the mechanic was able to fit a new timing belt kit with new bearing and pulleys. I can't wait to see the bill.![]()
While he was doing that, I was fitting a new white coolant reservoir tank, removing the oil cooler lines to modify them and have new barbed fittings brazed on - with new hoses.
I also found the fuel line from the filter to the pump had worn through on the auto trans filler and was pumping fuel every where. The previous owner did say it was heavy on fuel. (Langy, that explains the fuel on the bottom of that pipe).
I was going to replace the alternator heatshield but LR (via Trivetts) wanted about $60 or more for the 3 rubber isolating mounts.

You're right! Maybe I should keep it.
I also found out that my P38A windscreen isn't covered under a "one free screen a year" option on my policy. That applies everywhere except NSW.
I never thought to grab the rego no. of the truck in front just in case the rock had come off him. I really thought I had a winscxreen coverage.
