Man Ron you have about the same luck as one of my mates customers.
About 6 months ago the drive plate went on his 97 300tdi disco es and got onto LR for a new one and was told to call a wrecker as it would be 4 weeks.
So he had a S/H one fitted by a good LR shop in melbourne but was warned that there was no warrenty as they have a habit of going.
It made it to Jamison, halfway up his driveway and came back on a truck to My mates shop where it is still sitting waiting for LR to send the right driveplate as they have sent 3 V8 ones so far from england by sea.
While this was all happening his Rangie 2 door, 4.6 motec broke the centre diff so then he was down to taxiing it around and then he had no car.
I have bad luck when I fix the Jeep so Im getting rid of it (hopefully sooner rather than later) where any time I touch it I seem to do more damage than good but the Disco likes me.
Did I tell you about the remote tyre pressure monitoring system I bought?
One of the tyre pressure sensors has failed and the control module locks up if I try to change the display to account for the rotated wheels.![]()
The vendor no longer sells them.
$450 wasted.
Oh, a new screen for the P38A looks like it's around $1200 plus fitting.

Discovery update.
I'm in the middle of a rear axle service on the Disco. It's obviously done a bit of mud-plugging judging from the mud in the brake caliper, etc.
This morning I pulled the hub off the LHS and there was evidence of rust in the bearings. So I've fitted new bearings and converted the hub to oil-fed rather than greased bearings. I pulled the seal out of the stub axle and fitted the twin-lipped oil seal in the hub.
Now lunch is over, it's back to look at the RHS. I'll take photos this time - I think this needs to be in the projects and tutorials based on how often it gets asked about.
I don't know whether to fit new brake pads or not. These are about half worn.
I think the daughter will be in for a shock on the price of the D1 with the repairs and maintenance done.

I did the other side this arvo. The bearings were not rusty but the nut was done up so tight I needed a breaker bar to undo it (the inner nut, not the outer locknut). I wonder if the last mechanic tightened the nut to 61Nm as specified but forgot to back the nut off.
Both bearings have run on the axle. I'm not a mechanic so I didn't know if the wear was acceptable. I suspect the bearings have run owing to the nut being so tight and there being absolutely no end float.
I considered fitting the new bearings with Loctite Bearing Mount 641 but was concerned it would make the hub very difficult to remove in the future.
In the end, I didn't replace the brake pads. I compared them to new ones and they were less than half worn.

Ron, l'm glad you exist as your like a black hole in the galaxy, sucking in all the bad luck that would otherwise spread itself about the place and find its way into my life, keeping on sucking in the bad mojo

Got it all back together today - we had to wait for a water pump bolt to be delivered. The old bolt was near rusted through.
So while I was waiting I cleaned the sedimenter. It had a fair bit of pitting from water. It also had a lot of waxy muck in it. I also fixed the rear window that wouldn't go up or down. That was easy, the switch had been unplugged in the console. I re-greased the pulley bearings in the accessory belt tensioner and idler. I had bought a grease needle from SuperCrap to do this but had the wrong grease in the gun - moly grease, not high temp bearing grease. So I popped the shields off the bearings and repacked them by hand.
After fitting the water pump bolt and closing it all up, we started it..... and it leaked water like a sieve.
So the apprentice pulled the water pump off and replaced the gasket while I did some other stuff for the mechanics. That fixed it. We'd removed three bolts last Friday to replace the P-gasket while we were inside the beast and it must have disturbed the water pump gasket.
Bloody frustrating, though.
I still haven't got a bill - I'm dreading it even though I know they'll be fair.
