    Another day, another dollar <rant>

The Disco we just bought is fitted with dual N70 batteries.

I pulled them out as they weren't bolted bown properly and I thought I'd clean up the alsmost certain rust below.

As you are aware N70 batteries are too big and N50 is the correct size. When I got them out, whoever had fitted them had unbolted the clamp plate around the air conditioning pipes on the RHS and bent them plus the support bracket back to allow the N70 to be squeezed in. They also managed to jamb wiring under the battery and squeeze the life out of that (an N70 ain't light).

I've carefully straightened the pipes and bracket so now I have to get or make a clamp plate up and buy a new battery of the correct size. If I'd left it, the aircon pipes would have fractured and the battery would have vibrated all over the place.

I was told by the seller that a certain 4wd place in Newcastle which is a bit "out of town" did the job. Not happy, Jan.

At least the rust under the battery wasn't too bad and seems to have cleaned up OK with a wire brush and a treatment with rust converter.

    G'Day Ron

When I fitted two N70's to my disco and had the same problem with the aircon pipes. My solution was to shorten the bracket by cutting it and then 2 x nut, bolt and springwasher. (or maybe nyloc's ... can't remember, and can't check at the moment)

Once the bracket was shortened, I set about shortening the aircon pipes to fit the bracket again. I found that with some "careful massaging" I could bend the short sections into a sort of an "S" shape (on it's side) to take take up the slack. I had the grill off and was careful not to create anywhere that the pipes could rub and fracture.

I did it myself after getting a ridiculous "plumbers" quote from an aircon place that only saw the LR badge. This seems to have been quite successful and by doing the same it may save the cost of a new battery and give you the greater capacity of the N70.

    good luck
    Stevo

dunno about the squashed wiring ... didn't have that problem
can't do photos till I get it back - with it's shiny new head

I have an N70 (Sized deep cycle) as my aux battery in the disco but an N50 as the main but then again mine is a 300TDI and the air con hoses are on the N50 side.

As far as a battery clamp goes it is clamped in 2 ways, with Nylon blocks to the bottom mounts on either side to a steel plate with captive nuts and a steel strap with nylon casing over the top.

Ive gone a bit over kill as it broke away from the original plastic clamp with 1/4" rod on the corragations in NT and I was lucky nothing shorted as it was hitting the bonnet with the rubber case over the pos terminal.

Im pretty happy with it so far but it hasnt seen corragations like that yet so I guess we will find out if its worked when we hit the road again in September.

I know it doesnt exist without photos so when Mrs Mcrover gets home with it Ill try and snap some if its not too dark.

I think I've mentioned my atrocious luck in buying stuff.

Yesterday I picked up the indicator cancelling mechanism from KarCraft (it was with an order I picked up for KLR Auto but not packed with them so just grabbed them and paid KLR for them.

I went to fit the parts today - they were broken in the packet. They had not been anywhere after pickup from Karcraft, just my hot little hands. Gaahhhhh!

I hope the new white coolant header tank is OK.

I got an air con pipe clamp plate today, KLR had one so that's fixed. Battery tomorrow - I hope.

I've got the immobiliser from Jaycar - $100 - so I'll fit that ASAP.

I picked up the S/H cargo barrier yesterday but I'll need a fitting kit. I though something was missing despite strong denials from tjhe seller. Milford emailed the fitting instructions today. Now I can see I'm missing stuff.

If anyone needs the instructions, let me know and I'll email them. I wonder if Inc can host them on this site. Milford don't have them available for download off their site which is a bit short-sighted.

    My luck holds out.

I bought flowers for my wife yesterday morning for our anniversary. I left them out for her and went to bed (I was on 11pm-7am). When I got up, she told me the flowers were rotting. I hadn't checked.

Yesterday arvo, I went to the hardware store and bought "first flush" device for the rainwater tank. When I got home, parts of the unit fell out of the bag to the ground. The bag had been torn open at the bottom. When I checked the contents, the filter in the bag was broken and bits were missing. It had, as I later found out from the hardware store, been a returned item and been put back on the shelf. Naturally, I bought it.
