Get the wife a Rangie Classic and fix the County? Seems whoever lets go of their Defenders end up crying themselves to sleep some days after it drives away from them in the hands of 'another' hahahah For less then half the price of the Disco you could get a near fully optioned classic? Hey i'm not saying do it just because I own one too, but it was the best car i've seen for $800!

How much do you want for the county?

    I'm starting a collection.
I've been beaten to the punch. But Mick would make you an offer HE couldn't refuse!

That is low k's for your DII!
Why not buy a 4cyl Jap car for 10, whack the Missus in it, save the environment and make the county a project.

If you hva enothing to lose you could have a shot at some of the repairs yourself. Like you say, it's worth nothing so what have you got to lose.....

along the same lines as said earlier. I like the 110's.

So, put a 2nd hand 3.9 auto in the county. buy some county door frames from the uk. I like the lift up handles or 2nd hand defender defender doors here (even better buy a defender wagon body and drop it onto your chassis. Don't buy a county body, lots of IR issues in the UK in the 80's. the built quality was ****e - lots of cars were Friday cars. I bought a late 80's county body - the left rear door gap was 35 mm diff to the right rear door gap. Gal the b-pillar (don't paint as it will fall off anyway).

Buy the missus a new mmc lancer - model runout, best value new car there is.

County will be a top camper and occasional driver - misses will be quite happy (even happier if you get her think it was her idea to buy the lancer.

    just an idea.

    Update

Well, I've bartered the County away.

Much as I love the stroker engine, I was disappointed in the particular car as a whole - had had a hard life on the beach and needed more TLC than I could give it - ready for its second rebuild in under 300,000km just one example. I know you all love them, and getting back into the Stage 1 I appreciate the coil suspension, but I'll take my time when/if I buy another.

The stealer, despite me telling him I was buying the DII and him telling me he'd hold it until I got back to him, took a deposit on it from someone else, sight unseen. Then tried to talk me into paying close to 30,000 for a td5 DII with 120,000km. He's seen the last of my business.

Missus says I can get any car I want for a daily driver - this might get interesting. Any roadworthied Series IIa GS's out there?

Many thinks for the advice everyone.

To the County lovers - it just wasn't to be, but it has gone to a good home and will rise again in some form, I'm sure.

To the "just do it" brigade, I tried, I really did. But if the dealer will sell the car from under me and then cry ethics I'll take my business elsewhere. Just where I'm still deciding.

Steve - your sig has been lying to us all this time. We readers feel betrayed.

Either that or you were married to the County, and even though you told her you "love" her only yesterday you have dumped her for another woman!
