    Fraser Island Mobile Coverage

    Does anyone know if/where there is cell phone coverage on Fraser Island? or CDMA?

    the are areas of good coverage are around the main villages

    not if you are with AAPT!!!
    only got service on the far western side looking at harvey bay!
    wasnt a bad thing seeing it was our honeymoon!

    only helstra has decent coverage there i believe.... most of the others are useless outside of the major towns in qld coastal areas..

    Unless it has changed since I was in the area last (unlikely) there is coverage along much of the west coast albeit touch and go in places if handheld, and this would extend to favoured patches on the rest of the island where you are not in the shadow of sandhills. This is CDMA (and probably Next G), nothing else will have anything except a few chance spots away from towns.

    Lake McKenzie carpark. Orchid Beach, around the northern beach entry & a few hundred metres north. Anywhere in the Kingfisher Bay complex. I didn't try it but I heard they work at Central Station as well.

    Service provider was Three, who fall back to Telstra's network when out of 3G zones.

    This was first two weeks of Jan 07.

    Edit: My phone is a crappy Motorola. Above sites got me 2 or 3 bars on the reception strength thingo, and very clear reception. Lake McKenzie one is good because people get really upset when you teel them where you're ringing them from :-)

    Geez looking at those maps Next G is doing pretty damn good! Surpassed CDMA.

    3 falls back on Voda phone network when out of range of 3g not Telstra
