I don't have any recommendations on books, but recommend Weipa, the Pennyfather River inlet (nth Weipa), Lockhart River, Iron Range NP, Fruit Bat falls, Cape Melville, Captain Billy's Landing, and Cape Flattery.
I enjoyed going to these places.
The cape is a good trip, the roads weren't too bad when we went 2000. You need to remember about alcohol restrictions that vary from place to place.
Depends on what you're into, BushTuckerMan's got some good stuff on ABC DVD, if you want to watch DVD's and you're into fishing just ask, 4wding, theres plenty to read, you're better off askin' the locals as you pass through, just go for it........
Fruit Bat Falls - Have you ever wondered why its called that as there isn't any Fruit Bats about.
Its named after a trades assistant, whoswe nickname was fruit bat who worked for Telecom survey team, who put in the Mobile Repeating Towers up the Cape.
How do l know, we were camped with the said survey team in 1984 at the falls for several days in 1986

I'm planning on taking the 6by in 2008 leaving Kalgoorlie on Anzac day, after the dawn service of course via the Birdsville track.
