    Oh not good.

Good to hear they had suitable safety measure which seem to have worked effectively... not sure about walking out and leaving the keys in the car though... a good opportunity for thieves but can see the logic in it though

    lets see
A you dont have choice as way forward is blocked by accident
B you cant reverse out of the tunnel as cars behind you blocking
C you been instructed to evacuate the tunnel via emergency exits
D if you lock you car rescue crews cant move it and they will use force to move it damaging it
E your going to be hanging around the emergency exit waiting to access you car in hours and hours time once they cleared the tunnel

so yes l would leave my keys in the car that l have to abandon in an emergency

the tunnel design incorporated the safety features learn't from the Mount blanc tunnel disaster there are exits along the tunnel for pedestranian egress and high volume smoke stacks and water sprinklers whihc they say doused the fire out before the fire crews arrived.

    pity about the 3 deaths

given the volume of traffic going through the tunnel l am surprised it hasn't happened earlier.

they did ban at one stage any petrol or gas tanker truck from tunnel don't know whether ban still applies or if lifted would be reimposed

I see in an unrelated incident some rail and tram services are shut down after power was cut off because of a gas leak in Glenferrie road. Best of luck anyone (anywhere) in Melbourne in a hurry to get home tonight! Even if they get the gas leak stoppage fixed in time it will have caused chaos to traffic and tram and train timetables, add the tunnel closures......

I used to travel through it about 3 times a week to go to Altona, Sunshine and Geelong golf clubs and I always got very very nervous when cars and trucks would break down as soon as it started on the way up again.

I nearly go cleaned up 1 time by a 2 or 3 tonne truck that swerved at the last miniute into the centre lane as I got stuck behind another small truck that slowed down until it eventually stopped as so did I but the truck behind me wasnt ready for it a asume.

My thoughts go out to those families that lost their loved ones in this incedent.

I see it as I pay my insurance for any such event that I would lose my car, I just wouldnt leave my keys in the ignition as then it would void my insurance it says in my policy so I would leave it on the seat but make sure I took my house keys off so at least I could get in to my house when I got home, bugger the car if im alive it's only a car.
