Mate of mine was looking at a 300tdi disco a few years ago and got "nah mate these things don't need servicing much, they are such a good car".

Hello to all,
Having just read aquarangie's post re a D2 in Melb, I got to thinking about sus ads or sales pitches re buying cars that we may have heard. A couple of favourites that I have heard are...........
"Mate, I need to sell today, no kidding. My mum just died in ******* and I need the airfare.
"I lost the books but it has a perfect history" "Where", I ask. "My brother in law"![]()

Six months ago I looked at buying another 4x4 and as a last effort sales pitch the salesman offered me a post dated cheque for $1000.00 if I bought it. The date was 2 years from the date of sale, I couldnt believe what he was saying and I walked away plus it wouldnt go into low range. That car yard is now closed up. I wonder if they got any suckers to buy on that promise of getting $1000.00![]()
I looked at a Defender a couple of years ago at a second hand dealer in Sydney and discovered something seriously dodgy that people should watch out for.
The dealer was selling a nearly new recovered stolen vehicle as "still under warranty". It is important to note, however, that if a vehicle is declared a "complete loss" by an insurance company (and there is no distinction between damaged beyond repair and stolen) then Land Rover's warranty is void! I presume this is the same for most manufacturers' warranties. The condition of the vehicle and cigar smoke from the salesman managed to put me off before I found that out the hard way fortunately.
