I can confirm it.
Going to put up signs instead.
just read on a couple of other forums that QLD state forests no longer require a permit to traverse, can anyone confirm or deny this??

I wasn't told anything about gates. Just signs.
They told me that until the new signs go in you can go anywhere current signs that say you need to have a permit say you can go.
I have no idea what those signs say though.
The forests I drive in I can go anywhere anyway as I'm checking on our allocation![]()
I doubt they ever got much income from that if any. I have never seen or heard of anyone getting a fine.
It probably cost them more to issue the free paper permits than they ever got from the fine for not having one.
I imagine there will still be a fine actually. As it isn't open slather. There will be places you can't go and they will be signed. So instead of saying I didn't realise this track was not covered by the permit and getting away with it perhaps (if they were even seen/caught). It will be much harder to say convincingly I didn't see the sign.

Was the permit system ever enforced ?
It doesnt appear to be in the Mt Mee state forest as all the locals out that way use it as an alternative route (probably to get home from Dayboro pub) and no one out there worries about permits
Just got off the phone to the Eccoaccess unit and yes they have removed the permits for individuals in the southern region (Mackay and south) but the web site still says they are required....go figure
Still need group activity permits for clubs and they now charge for them too
But if a group of individuals all decided to go the same place at the same time using the same tracks![]()
That's all we do. I wonder what constitutes a group?
An organised tour, a bunch of mates, a 4wd club?
If it's an orgainised group where someone is making money from it then I'd understand but for a not for profit club or just mates then I think they have buckleys of getting any money out of them.
I do the trips for LROCB and as a club if we want to use the facilities we have no choice but to do the right thing, if that means paying for the group activity permit then thats how it is, I would not risk the clubs reputation and the chance that the anti 4wd lobby would love to get hold of a 4wd club doing the wrong thing for the sake of a few dollars despite the fact that I think that only commercial operators should be paying as well.
