From memory the with some of the bars all the extra cost is, is the winch mounting kit. So check with the manufacturer and you may find their bar is winch compatible and if you want you can later buy the winch kit.
Hey All
I figured this goes here, as it is not strictly tech chatter. Anyway, I'm looking to upgrade from the glorified nudge bar on the front of the Disco for something more solid.
My options and a standard bull bar or one thats winch compatible. What are the pros and cons? I don't see myself having a spare few grand to get a winch fitted anytime soon, plus i don't see myself going anywhere where i'd be in dire need of one. But things may change.
Should i keep my options open and just get a winch bar and leave it empty or just save the extra couple of hundred dollars and get a bull bar?
Your thoughts?
Cheers
CaptJimmy

i would go winch bar just because then you can always put one on if you think you need one later. But if you really dont think you will need one then i would go a bullbar and get a handwinch which is probably a better idea actually cause then you can winch from the front or back of your vehicle....Not that a Land Rover would get stuck![]()
Get the winch bar. You don't want to be in the position of being able to get a winch later and having to modify or change bars later.
From what I have seen ARB bars are either compatible or not whereas the TJM bars are all the same and you can buy a winch cradle kit for it later.

If you can afford the winch bar get it, save yourself money now and put that money towards the electric winch.
Enjoy

If it is in budget go the winch bar. Keeps your options open for later.
Buy a winch bar, put the number plate over the hole where the winch comes out looks like a normal bar and eventually when you can afford a winch put it on.
Of all the mods I have done to my disco which is a lot, the best single thing I have added to her is the winch and bar or actually bar and winch.

Ditto above comments.
Ditto again, but I suggest that If you did want a winch, buy the hand winch (Tirfor) first so your covered and then look on ebay for a winch, tabors by warn are pretty good.
By the way I have a TJM alloy winch bar that I put the winch in later on with a home made kit that a mate gave me.
Yeah definitely go for the winch bar! I always thought I didnt need a winch...until I bought my Disco and now I love it!! The TJM is a good option as you can adapt it later with the winch kit. Give a better approach angle too!
