A lot of people don't realise but when you register a web site all the details of who is registering the website become public documents and easily accessible.

There are "privacy" options which mask who you are (as a person) by showing only a company name however those options cost a few pennies more.

In this case either TPP Internet is the company who registered aulro.com.au, else the person paid for the "private" option and that's the company name that showed up for them.

Don't worry about the tech details, that usually the details of the techie at the hosting company - normal stuff again.

All quite open and no laws broken

I would'nt have thought ( OR RATHER WOULD HOPE NOT!!!) That someone who is on here, and knows that you do it out of your own pocket, would pull such a shifty. If it is and they're watching.....LIFT YOUR GAME & FESS UP!!...........Alternatively, if they're not members, and have just stumbled across this site, ......they will come to their senses before they fall down and hurt themselves, err, i mean....do the right thing.

TPP Is the Registrar - the company the domain name id registered through.

It is owned by Atlantis Ventures. The Registrant Contact name should be from Atlantis... but as you said is often from the hosting company..

No violation of privacy as the info is publicly available to anyone and all sites can be checked the same way, they just may not give any credible info.

the other thing though is there is a bot or something (someone else can clarify exactly how it is done) that keeps track of web addresses entered into your browser, either incorrect or not and certain companies register these commonly mistaken addresses like aulro.com.au so they can on sell to the real owner at a nice inflated costing

privacy laws are a bit strange,there are ways to find out things for example if I am looking at buying a house I can find out how much they paid for it (that is the easy bit)and how much they still owe on there mortgage this bit costs money and there is a few web sites out there that deal in this info and no laws are broken it is legal
