I'll make it 5 .. my wife had a 2001 V6 for almost four years. 90,000km with no issues to speak of. Well, there was one issue ... bloody thirsty!! ... especially when I drove it :twisted:
Traded it in on my current Defender ... got a good 21k for it.

Both diesels are great engines but , as said, the earlier cars had some driveline issues (especially if always driven on bitumen).
Well I've got a V6 Petrol.
It's been a mixed bag, the biggest problem being a new auto box. However LR have been good and it's a known problem. Apart from that it's been great and a real pleasure to drive, so much so it's been hard finding a worthy replacement!
A 2000 model would only get you the 1.8 Petrol or Diesel, not the newer TD4 or V6. In that case the 1.8 Diesel is the pick.

Ummm what about the new Freelander 2 Diesel then?
Love the Freelander, had a 99 diesel and sold it to my parents when I moved north, the vehicle has 140k on it and the only major work done to it is the gear linkages went to poop but other than that its been a fantastic vehicle and performed brilliantly on a trip to Kenilworth with a few members from here. Only thing I dont like is the fact it doesnt have a low range gear box which can be sort of overcome by having an auto and the fact that when you go offroad you have to plan your path a bit better so you dont gut it:cool:
