    Defender delivery date

For those interested in the new Defender delivery - I just received a call from my LR dealer - I'll have my '07 Defender in October. Yippee!

I will believe it when I see it.

I am just back from the UK and even Landrover themselves were frustratingly vague on Australian delivery dates! As far as getting a test drive, no-one at LR seems to know if any Australian dealers will even get any demos. Landrover admit that they only market Defender to commercial purchasers who require multiple/customised units. They concede that it is a bit pointless for regular consumer dealerships to have Defenders "on the floor". Even in the UK Defenders are only ever available at "rural" dealerships for test drives since the city dealerships generally only move Discos/Rangies/Freelanders. Since the luxury SUV market is what LR Australia seem focussed on it stands to reason that the only new Defender most of us will drive will be the one we buy or the one our mate is silly enough to lend us the keys to.

Could have put it better and after 5 attempts to test drive a D3 I gave up on that too. Funny how salesman will ignore potential customers. Even wrote to Land Rover Aust. about my experience and got ignored by them too!

Did my second service today, dealer said new 110 is going to be at shop late august - early september. Also said he knows new engine (ford engine) very well, so in his opinion there will be a great demand for this Defender, compare to TD5. Hope he is right, so we can get increasing in numbers in our Land Rover community

I ordered mine in November 2006 so waiting 7 more months is a piece of cake .

Regarding this delivery date - everything my dealer has told me relating to the new Defender has been proved correct, which is why I don't necessarily doubt their news. The dealer's track record of information has proved pretty accurate so far - I mean, this is the info they have given me over the past few months...

    1) New Freelander to be presented at the Brisbane car show (prior to public knowledge)
    2) New Defender would be seen at the Melbourne show (again - not advertised anywhere I could see)
    3) New price would be very similar to TD5 price - of course, the new price is still to be announced - but does anyone really still believe that prices will start at $60k? This was the talk some time ago on this forum. In England the average price increase is 400 pounds.

So I do actually believe them when they say they got an email from LR Australia saying the new model shipping September and available October to those with orders in. And when it does arrive I'd be happy to drive around to the nah sayers (at least the local ones) who insists it won't happen and invite them to take a look over it - as long as I get open slather on their beer fridge .

And if it doesn't come in October, or November, or December or even in 2008...- I'll just continue my wait. Then you guys will have to come over to my place and drink my fridge.

    Sounds like a date We can compare a 05 to a 07

We waited 9 months for our MINI. We also ordered sight unseen. It was different to ordering a fender though, as no one in Aus had diven or seen one when we put the cash down

    What's all this about then?

Personally I believe the price will rise considerably more than they are telling you. UK pricing was already more expensive than the Aussie pricing and to keep the price rise down they have lowered the standard equipment. That, combined with a renewed demand from the faithful will encourage LR to increase prices here accordingly.

Why would they ship them overseas for less than they can sell them for in the home market?
