    The end is nigh...

    Recently one our dogs - Ricki - has been in for a few operations as he's been having inflammation of lymph nodes in his throat.

    The vets were unable to find anything wrong and after the last operation his throat appeared to be getting better.

    However when we came home on Thursday afternoon Ricki wasn't himself - he was depressed, morose, and off his food and drink.

    This morning we took him to the vet and she put a drip in him to raise his fluid levels and try to get some glucose back in his system.

    About 12:30pm today we received a call from the vet informing us that Ricki's kidneys had failed. He isn't in any pain (though he feels pretty crappy), but it is only a matter of time before he passes away.

    We left him on the drip for an hour to replenish his fluids, then picked him up and brought him home so he could spend his last night with us. If he makes it through the night then we will take him down to the vet at 10am tomorrow to be put down.

    We love you Ricki boy and your memory will be with us always.

    He is only 8.

    Sorry to hear it, Grizzly.

    They do become a favourite member of the family and one does love them. I know how I'll feel when Johnson goes - I worry about him every time he gets sick (he's a 14yo lab).

    ........we lost BOTH of ours within the last twelve months to Cancer,

    ........Mum and Dad are still not over it..........
