I once saw on Aus TV a similar thing carried out in Sydney just before some sporting event between Aus and NZ. I was amazed how many Aussies when asked did not know the right colour of the stars on the Australian flag !! they were asked if the Stars were Red or White, not to hard really, but, as said how many interveiwed got it right,

Most of the questions were just plain commonsense, like, "where is the BERLIN wall", "what religion are BUDDHIST monks", crikey they were given the answers and still couldn't get it right and they questioned a fairly broad range of people. When it comes to general knowledge about the REST of the world, MOST (not all) Americans are woefully inept, Regards Frank.

There's one worrying trend in Australia too... and that is the fact there's a lot of this kind geographical of ignorance creeping in to our great land. I think if you asked the same questions in the centre of Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane you would be amazed by the responses.

Did anyone notice the caption placed over Australia on the map he was asking them to pin things on to? I'm sure at one point it read South Korea!

The Aussie mainland was North Korea, Tassie was South Korea. That's why the American was amazed - he didn't realise North Korea was so big.

Can you imagine him relating that to his friends? However, I do wonder if he ever saw MASH.

The other one was the girl who didn't know that the USA was involved in the Vietnam War.

I also loved the comment by one of them that one of the places to invade next was Canada. I wonder if he knows where Canada is located? (Althought that might have just been careful editing).
