Thumbs up stolen boat found minus aux motor

Got a call from the cops late last night boat was found about 2km's from where I live, someone local needed a new motor for their tinny I guess next one I get I will put an external marking that stick out and hard to hide ie engrave the leg with the engine numbers plus rego number.

Cops came around for the finger printing but found none they blame the cop shows that tell everyone how things are done.My brothers mate had lost a bobcat sold it to someone for 60K they used a stolen bank check so even if some one gives you a bank check do not hand it over till it gets cleared,I won't be trusting that form of payment after finding that out

when you replace the motor have it "microdot" marked.or at least put a sticker on it. might help.

mns488: have you heard of microdots or datadots? I saw something about them on telly a while ago and it seems a good way of 'invisible' marking.

Then a few days ago I was in a Supercheap and for $90!! you can get the the microdots as a spray on.

    Just a thought....

Glad you got your boat back

Microdots / datadots are next to useless for anything unless ALL items of the same type are marked with them..

Take for instance, buy a new falcon, they charge 500 to do it .. car get stolen, do you give a rats ?, Hell No! ... as you get a new one with insurance, and seeing what 1/50 would fork out the $$ to get it done to a falcon, why would you bother, give you nothing, not cheaper insurance, no one would look on a falcon panel for them, not even smash repairers, if they get the part cheap do you think they care ?

Ok ... BUT say BMW .. all new BMWs come standard with the dots on the box, so that means if ANY get stolen, they are all marked and you get your parts / car back because ever found / spare part / panel is marked, most insurance companies give discounts to cars with a FULL RANGE datadot system.

Doing it your engine would be useless UNLESS you found it and had to prove it in court that it was yours ... chances of finding it, slim unless you put it on the manufactures stolen list so if it goes in for service (doubt it) it will ring bells.

Rego / Mobile Number put somewhere they can not grind out, and somewhere you can see without interrogating the person is the way to do it, then head to your local ramps next summer with the shotgun and pitbull (or wife, what ever is scarier).

Bugger that you lost the the aux but look on the bright side you got most of it back.
What I did to my boat and associated equipment was put my last name and drivers license No/ in easy to see spots all over the boat motor and all removable stuff with a dremel.

even the battery and anchor, so I lost the anchor rope, which I had to have a laugh at as it worked. Just cant put your name on rope easily.

Funny thing was when I sold it the bloke didn't have a problem with it I just wrote on the receipt what I had done so he could prove to the police that it was his.
