MMMM 170 rescue vehicle. Will have to start the seds of thought now, but with LRs back up and commitment to service I think not. With Gold City LR shutting its doors there are only 5 or 6 dealers left in WA and most workhops do not want to know about them. Such a shame. 1000 kmround trip to get any serious work done, I think not. It is a poor effort that we can not get any factory backed servicing or repairs in most of WA.
Sounds good i'll start saving. :D Land rover will need to do alot to compete with the new 70 series, toyota have made all the necessary changes to try and knock defender sales down even lower, with the introduction of the wagon plus a few other changes consumers now have more choice.
If defender are taking 6yrs to develop it it had better be good.
That sounds pretty good. Give them a couple of years to sort the bugs and it will be 2015. Our car will be ten then. Possibly a good time to have a think about it.
Let's hope LR get back on track with the market pitch of the new Defender. The fact that they appear to have taken their eye off the commercial market is what has stuffed the current one (here in Aus anyway). Bottom line is the original Landrover was a commercial utility vehicle and recreational usage market forces have compromised its design.
Ladder chassis - still used by trucks therefore no need to go for a monocoque or other silly hybrid D3 style semi-chassis. It is, after all, more of a truck than a car.
Engine - not too powerful, just economical and reliable and able to tow well. All these complaints about the Transit engine being underpowered are misplaced I feel. You don't need a TDV8 - sure it might be a nice option to have, but get real! I would take 7l/100km economy over 200kW power.
Basic, functional exterior you won't cry over if you scratch or dent it.
Basic, functional interior with any unnecessary electrickery offered as OPTIONS not standard.
AND - the ability to bolt on anything you want just about anywhere on the vehicle.
Anything can happen in the next 6 years.
As 'fender owners love 'em because they're versatile and different to just about anything else, the 'new' one should carry on the tradition, not everyone wants a monocoque bubble!
Would be really good if LR just made a 110 base model - the owners can then add on anything they want.

You are right of course, but personally I would take 200kW of power over 7l/100km, and I would even think seriously about a petrol V8, so it would be nice to at least have the option. :cool:Quote:

The rover is versatile due to its engine, gearbox and driveline setup..
ITs comparatively low power means you can get away with comparatively lighter driveline components, and still do the same job. a lower powered motor drinks less fuel and if your stuck with the mindset of well its going to take me longer to get there you'll generally be easier on the noisey pedal as well... which means, a further reduction in fuel consumption...
But I hope that they maintain the box shape, Big red is smaller than a GXL cruiser in width and length but I get more in her than you can in the cruiser...

PRECISELY! In fact friends are often surprised when they see the Defender parked against a Falcon station wagon and realise it is actually SHORTER. I so hope they don't just "plump it up" like so many new car manufacturers tend to do.Quote:
