    All-New Defender scheduled for 2013!

    FROM : http://thelandroverchronicles.com/jo...next-year.html

    All-New Defender scheduled for 2013!

According to Autocar, an all-new Defender is in the works and scheduled to launch in 2013. The report suggests Defender II will be rugged as ever and visually it'll be an evolution of the current look, but also influenced by a new 'premium adventure' design language.
Land Rover is looking to double sales from the current 25,000. Another important element Land Rover is considering is whether a new Defender needs to be available in 170 variants from fire engines to tipper trucks. Let’s hope so.
The current Defender will be updated again in 2010 to meet new pedestrian-impact legislation, but stiffer emission standards go into effect after 2013. You can read Autocars full report at the LINK

This sounds like good news, lets just hope by then Land Rover wakes up and they put a decent donk into power the thing, like a TDV8.

The scary thing is that 2013 isn't all that far away.

Interesting point is that it will NOT use the D3 platform. If it is intended to retain a wide variety of body types, it will be almost essential to retain a separate chassis, although this may be more integrated with the body than at present. I'd be surprised to see the bolt together structure retained unless production is moved to somewhere with lower labour costs.

I'd be surprised if they can keep the current one going that long. There was some mention about a more pedestrian friendly model in 2010?

The new EU laws about pedestrians mean that all vehicles will have to adopt new front end shapes.

Why not just keep the stupid pedestrians off the road!

If anyone wants to read the technical data it's in here:

There's no way the current shape Defender would come anywhere near passing those tests. Maybe they will just sell it in overseas markets but we seem to be slavishly following the EU regulations.

Don't forget the front panels of the Defender are non structural - and can be either made collapsible or changed in shape. And the same applies to the chassis in front of the steering box.
