My rainwater tank pressure pump failed last week - not long out of warranty. Well, the pump didn't actually fail, it just refused to switch off when it reached pressure.
So I pulled the switch box apart and found the 240 volt active wire had never been soldered into the printed circuit board - it was just poked through the hole A quick touch up with a soldering iron and all was good.
'Tis amazing it lasted through the warranty period.
Having observed in print these little (mis)adventures of yours Ron, I have concluded that they are part of your Karma to keep you alive to all manner of ingenious problem solving which you appear to relish:p long may it continue!! :angel:
When it comes to rainwater tanks I reckon my dad has you beat. The tanks has been replaced twice and the pump is about to be replaced for the third time, and a couple of weeks ago I had to go over and glue some of the plastic pipe back together.

I'm heading off to Bright, Vic, tomorrow on my V-Strom for the V-Strom StromTrooper forum get-together. I'll be away for about a week.
So today I thought I'd do a few jobs, e.g., fit the GPS, add 12v cigarette lighter socket, fit some heated grips.
Installation of the grips was marred by the fact that the switch fell apart and I had to replace that. Then all went well until I fired up the heated grips. , I didn't look when I plugged in the fuse and when I turned around there was smoke pouring from the bike. My heated grips wiring had released all their smoke. Shades of Lucas!
Yes, I should have checked for shorts before powering up.
Upon further testing I found my new heated grips were shorting to the handlebars. Gaahhh!
I had bought two sets of the grips (one for the other bike). When I checked them, the wires weren't even soldered to the tags on the heater elements.
Bloody Chinese crap!
I've got it sussed...
the items are all breaking in the hope that you'll return them and get your money back before you start checking the wording on the buttons, safety/warning labels and the supporting documentation for gramatical/spelling errors.
