She goes back to Guide Dogs tomorrow. I'd love to keep her but it's not on at the moment.
I bought a slide and film scanner today. I got four negatives scanned and then it shut down and won't power up any more.
What Brand is it Ron? Where From ?
It's a second-hand commercial unit. A Sony UY-S100 It was quick when it worked.
I also have a Sony UY-S90/Konica RX-II but it no longer works either. I'm not sure why but I suspect a power supply fault.
I've now downloaded the manuals for those two.
I have a Nikon Coolscan LS-1000 that I've not tried out as I need a different SCSI cable for that — a CN50 (male) to HD50 (male)
The PS isn't starting up. Gahhh. Naturally, it isn't the same as a PC PS so I can't fit one of those. Fixing it is well outside my knowledgebase and getting a replacement is probably impossible.
I haven't bought much lately but I did this week,
The headband LED light has a faulty switch. If I turn it on, it won't turn off. When I finally got it off, I left it in the garage. Later that night I went to the garage and wondered what was glowing. It was the light. At least I can take it back for exchange.
Worse, though, is the Mother's Day (should that be Mothers' Day?) present I bought. They are earrings and the clasp on one of them is faulty as my wife found when she went to put them on. Ah, well. Back to Angus & Coote shortly.
Ever since the misgivings engendered by this thread developed in 2007 I have been reluctant to purchase new things for fear of getting some of the goods that Ron normally purchases.
It has occurred to me that the downturn in retailing has similarly become more severe from that time and this thread clearly could be the one of the causes.
Ron... you started it - so turn it around ! Australian retailers need you !
Laurie, I'm reluctant to buy anything these days. :(
:D
We got back to the shop to exchange the headband light and found we had the wrong receipt. We'd thrown the correct receipt away. The shop honoured the warranty anyway. We had the original packaging and the light was going on and off as we were at the counter.
I haven't updated this in a while — but I haven't been buying much lately.
Several weeks back I ordered a "new" (secondhand) Adaptec AHA-21960N SCSI card for my PC. I need it for my flatbed scanner and my film scanner. The old Adaptec AHA-2940 wasn't compatible with Windows 7. After waiting 3 weeks for something that was supposedly in stock and following emails to the supplier, it arrived.
Too bad it was another AHA-2940. Gahhhh! The supplier has refunded the money and told me to keep the 2940. If he gets the right one in, he'll send it free of charge.
