A ladder is not a work platform Ron, merely an access device. It's considered so dangerous that tanker drivers are not allowed to access the hatches in the terminal.

I haven't mentioned this before (on line - I have to Scouse).

We had some work done around the house - roof repairs, new guttering, replacement of the rotten timber in the pergola with new treated pine.

This work started in September and is nearly finished.

The pergola went fine (but is not yet finished).

The roof repairs went well but were delayed by the guttering mob as all three jobs interlink.

The guttering has been less than successful. Of seven gutters replaced, six were installed with the fall away from the downpipes. One gutter had the edge of the roofing touching the outside edge of the gutter (see below).

It has taken weeks to get the company to fix it. Can you see me recommending the company?

To add insult to injury, the guttering blokes hacked into my new timber pergola which I'd carefully primed and painted to protect it. This required repair after the new guttering was pulled down for reinstallation.

After the roof repairs and repainting were completed, the gutter mob came back to fix more gutters.

Two weeks ago, I noticed something wasn't right so I climbed up on a ladder to check the gutters. The gutter mob had slid tiles back to do some work - and left them that way so water came into the house during that heavy rain we had in Sydney.

Now I've noticed that all the expensive new treated pine timber in the pergola is splitting. Was the stuff not dried properly? That's $5,000 worth of work in the pergola and car port roofing.

While I am no expert, it looks to me that the metal roof is too long.

Gutters are a fixed thickness and fixed to the barge board.

Yes it is. But the guttering company cut notches in the rafters to sit the guttering on thus tucking it back under the roof sheets. Once the guttering was taken down, I had to repair the damage and then fit a fascia board - which they should have done.

    I'm afraid so.

We've just had $9.5K worth of ducted aircon fitted. We went for a large system to cover those 45 deg C days we get.

Too bad it doesn't cool the bedrooms and we still have to use the window air cons to cool the rooms. We've asked the installers to come out a couple of times but to no avail.
