I was the lucky front seat passenger who was in the red Rover. All 3 of us crawled out by ourselves and no cutting equipment was used. All you see is road damage! I think we got out at the rear drivers end but I'm stuffed if I know how. It's one hell of a way to wangle a ride in the RAF Sea King rescue chopper! We were only travelling at about 40 mph but with a strong cross-wind as John mentions. This was not on the road to MPA but one of the cruder roads that run between farms. The gravel was very thick and loose - like driving on huge marbles. By the way, a Defender went over on exactly the same corner the week before, also without fatalities. Moral of the story - wear your seat belts and drive slowly.
That is one thing that scares me with the 130. A lot of weight to put on the cab.
Wagons are a far stronger structure than a ute cab - seeing that ute is sobering and I'll defintitly be giving serious consideration to a roll bar in my ute.
I believe the cast alloy A pillars of the 110's are a very bad design structurally, they fail with a brittle snap without absorbing any energy compared to old galvanised steel A pillars of the series landies.
Hi John,
Just letting you know that the blue Rover went down on West Falkland during Sports Week. The driver was not strapped in and was thrown clear. He sufferred a broken leg and was airlifted to Stanley. The passenger was not injured as far as I know.
Still working on those GPS co-ordinates for you.
