Well it started out good, drove down to house at Phillip Island friday morning with not much traffic and weather was near perfect, saturday had some friends come down for bbq lunch - still all good. Friends go home 3.30 ish and best mate and wife who live on the island come over for bbq dinner and a few drinks - after this went down hill fast. About 4.30 ish my 3 yo was playing with my brothers little boy and i saw her fall funny and scream, i rush over to see blood spraying everywhere, she turns her hand over and its alsmost sliced in two, me freaks out and hugs her tight while wife gets towels and best mate intsructs us what to do, i pick her up and mate rushes us to local hospital. Wait a few minutes to see doctor and he looks briefly and almost uncaringly says we cant treat that here you need to drive to dandenong
Ambulances are all busy so we decide to drive ourselves after nurses bandage up the wounds- didnt see deep cut on big toe at the time.
1 hour drive to dandenong hosp and then have to wait while the junkies and white trash get seen to firstwe get seen to 10 mins later and doctor comes down to look but daughter is in shock and wont let anyone touch it , plastic surgeon comes and says hopefully we get her in theatre tonite, 11.40pm and specialist plastic comes in and says he was rushed in just to see her but a bus crash has meant some life threatening cases have turned and she wont get in tonite. after almost 2 days of fasting and us waiting she finally gets in and luckily for us they have their full surgical team on and a paediatric plastic surgeon that specialises in childrens hand injuries . while my wife was at the hospital with Kayley i did 2 trips back to Phillip island (after 3 hours sleep) 1 trip to pickup our 6 week old from friends who looked after her for 1 night and then back to the hospital to drop off baby to wife while i drive 1 hour home to unload our luggage and dog , pickup supplies and then back to the hospital in time to be told surgery was booked for 3.30pm monday. Surgery was about an hour as they didnt have to do a skin graft as they originally told us. We were able to take bring her home last night thankfully so we didnt have to spend another night in that place. doctors say that she will hardly have any scarring and it will be all just a bad memory.
I tell you now that seeing my little girl in that much pain felt like my heart was being ripped out and hope to never go thru anything like that again.

Good to hear all ended well and your right it is bloody awful, though you sound a lot stronger than I am. Last week when youngest had 4th birthday, toppled back and split the back of his head open, blood everywhere. Thank god for mummy as I faint at the sight of blood. 3 stitches later and all good. Best regards to the little un,
Regards

Glad to hear that all is going well. Never good when it is your own kids. How did she do the damage?
A lot of hospitals and doctors suck and need a good smack around the ears. As paramedics we need to empathise with the casualties and their families and provide as much support as possible to help them through. So they see it everyday. most parents do not.

Hoping she's going to be alright. It's awful when your little ones get injured. What happened - did she pick up discarded broken glass?
I've seen where idiots have smashed bottles in creeks near bathing spots.
Oh, how was her toe?
I remember taking our 3 yo to hospital with a broken arm. It took 8 hours before she was seen.
