Defenders New & Old - UK Farmers Weekly Review and Rural Opinions

A must read. Some amusing real life stories on the brand and the model with lots of memorable quotes and cutting comments.

Here's a few snippets with each link below. If not open minded read on at your peril!

"As part of this radical interior overhaul, the Defender gains a set of "tweeters".
"What on God's earth are tweeters?" I hear you ask.
    Improve quality
Tweeters are high frequency speakers that improve the quality of sound for the "ICE" system.
No, the iconic off-roader has not just gained a freezer box: ICE - or In-Car Entertainment - is boy-racer lingo for the wireless.
But don't be lulled into a false sense of security. Although the Land Rover designers tell us they have given the seats a firmer foam filling, the driving position is still ars*-achingly uncomfortable.
Yep, you're still pressed right up against the door and still forced to adopt a list that would put any sea-going vessel out of commission."

"But the most off-putting thing about the Defender in recent years has been its metamorphosis from no-nonsense if uncomfortable and unreliable farm workhorse to girlie-wirlie Chelsea tractor.
All sorts of bells and whistles have appeared: there's air-conditioning, electric windows, alarms - lost of electrical gadgets and gizmos which I would have thought, given Land Rovers reputation for reliability and the hostile environment in which Land Rover are meant to work, is a recipe for disaster.
And there are plush seats and fitted carpets - even more of a problem bearing in mind that Land Rover seem incapable of keeping rainwater out of their vehicles. It always makes me chuckle, when I see another convoy of Fast Show "let's off-road"-types churning noisily along the lane, to spot how many have deep-wading snorkel air-intakes to keep water out of the engine. How much more useful would a properly shutting door be? "

"Hear bl**dy hear the LR is a semi mobile oil leak on wheels, the last demo TD5 I had out looked as if it had been painted by 5yr old with a clump of grass pulled from a hedge and dipped in a slimy puddle, sometimes there was paint mostly just runs and drips. "

"We have 3 Land Rovers on our yard. The '85 is more dents than any thing else but it just goes on and on. Looks interesting with 12" wide rims and floatation tyres for the marshes. The '91 CSW is great to drive, especially if you didn't have time to shower that morning!. The 2001 Td5 is utter rubbish. Can't pull a hen of its nest, leaks and keeps breaking down. "

Seams a bit harsh. I like the seats in the Defender and the air holes mean the water comes back out again.
