just came in to check the site while the silicone is drying on the sensor of the engine saver
those of you with a coolant alarm on your todo list my advise do it and do it now!
Our lucky escape started when I bought the engine saver in October 2006 received it the day after I ordered it and put it on the workshop bench and you all know how it is, time gets away from you ie. the P gaskets got a bit of a weep I'll get that fixed first it needs to have the fan take off to get to it and its due for a timing belt change in a few thou k's when I get it done I'll get the P gasket fixed, get it done mechanic says "Dave you realy need a coolant alarm fitted yada yada" yep I've got one I'll do a coolant change and fit the alarm no worries and then its Easter ( I know 6 months later) need to get away where will we go I Know! into some of the most remote country in east Gippsland and southern NSW have a great trip back to work on Monday drive into the car park pull up with people pointing at the front of the Defender get out and what the! coolant everywhere and nearly as much tears from me! open the expansion tank carefully and its about half what it should be phew! coolant still pouring out trace it to the waterpump seal, it must have just started to leak large amounts of coolant as I pulled up in the carpark. anyway new water pump fitted motor is fine and alarm being fitted as I type
moral of the story when you get a coolant alarm fit is straight away! not six months later!
