It happens when you least expect it

Whilst going across a sand track shortcut on the way home the young brickie towing my tandem trailer (as he was doing some work on the weekend) loaded followed me thinking he could as I go that way every day in the fender towing the trailer on 40psi tyres.
OOPs Hilux 3lt Diesel traybacks dont tow well in the sand.

reverse up hitch up the snatch and pull him and the trailer out but when my rears hit the bitchumen *BANG*, grinding metal was to be heard.
after investigation the rear right axle had shred its splines in the drive flange/member..Home we go in diff lock high

Being replaced this weekend with Maxi drive axles and Flanges all round, should make a we difference...($1600)...great Friday huh?

Anyone using those Ashcroft hard core CV's..if so where and how much?

So you could buy about 15 of the $65 ones advertised on ebay a week or so ago for the same price.

That's a lot of snapped CVs.

    Cheers

MMMMM thats my thought too. But the only advantage is the time saved in a comp to changing them

But they rarely break in the convenience of your own workshop.. the novelty wears off on a trip after changing one or two.

Yep I've got the Ashcrofts. Hopefully fit & forget. So far so good.

Were you running standard size tyres when this happened?

If so, guess it's time not to buy the cheapies.
