Yep, I'm with you. I have never said anything about the coverage, it is just the scheduling which sux......and a few of the commentators. Bring back Rusty.

I havnt found the telecast has change from channel 10 other than the comentary as well and I really think they need more Neil Cromtons, may be Grant Denyer and Cromly should do a show much like RPM was on 10 instead of that stupid V8 extra thing they have now that really does nothing for other forms of motor racing which will bite the sport in the A$$ as without coverage for the lower classes there will be little to no sponsership for the up and commers and the quality of such drivers/teams will go down hill because the cream wont be able to rise to the top.
I really think there is far to much football based TV shows and 7's commentary of the Geelong Hawthorn game that I caught a glimps of last night was the biggest load of amature crap I have ever heard.
You get better commentary at a country football game.
Sport should be televised but give it to the pay TV companys that will do what it takes to give the best coverage so more people pay to watch and are not driven by what a select group of sponsers want.
As far as 5 years ago, THAT IS WHEN HOLDEN WERE AT THEIR CHEATING BEST, and they were called on it and thats where the parity rules came in.
As far as ford teams sharing one engine supplier, who do you think supplies the Holden motor sport engine to every holden in the paddock, thats right HRT (GMH) and Stone brothers only supply 4 or 5 teams the others are supplied by Harrops or BJR and most of them do their own in house build ups.
if you get a chance do a tour of one of the racing teams workshops, not surehowmany do it. i did DJR last year with a group of tradesmans from work, well worth it plus it didn't cost us anything, part of DJR's sponsorship of a function i was organising. it also happened to be dick's b'day and he was good enough to spend 15/20min with us. we got a better tour than the general tour.
for the hour we were in the workshop they pushed steve's car onto the scales four times making adjustments each time
the only area we didn't see was the engine room, bit strange cause they opened the bonnet of one of the cars for us to have a look
I got a tour of Glen Setons workshop back about 10 years ago by one of the mechanics that was a customer of where I was working at the time.
It was amazing back then because they pretty much built every part other than the the shell which they modified to extremes.
I have been through the Perkins pits at sandown which was a totaly different story where a lot of things were sorced from outside suppliers and were the same as most of the other cars out there.
I would love to do it again I find it really interesting to see what they do just to get a couple of grams lighter or a hundredths of a second quicker.
Toll HSV has been cleared of any rule breaches, but HRT hasnt, Skaife is still in hot water over the whole who owns what saga. They have been saying from the start he needs to sort it or he is out, first it was adelaide, then it was after Barbagallo then it was after NZ, TEGA dont have the balls to say you aint racing till we are happy, its bull****. I am not a holden or a ford supported, i support Russell Ingall, if he swapped back to holden tomorrow i would follow him. There is no point supporting holden or ford in V8 SC's, they are homologated the same, the only thing that is different is the shape and the engine, even that is controlled so one doesnt gain an advantage.
Dont get me wrong V8's are the best sport on earth, and like some others in this thread i am sick of footy, its not the only sport in Australia, V8's are on once maybe twice a month, footy gets TV coverage for several hours every bloody weekend, missing 20mins so we could see tander beat ***** Smelly would have been far better.
Like someone said he worked hard to finish 3rd all those times to win the championship, now it looks like he will do it again, lets hope not. Tander is a far better drive, as is his brother Todd.
Ford do support their teams a great deal, yes they give less support than holden, and as a result you would be suprised if holden didnt win all the time as a result. But ford paid Lowndes alot of money to come to the dark side and it hasnt really paid off, paying russell ingall did, and i think paying Richo the money will pay off in the end because i think he can drive, so can lowndes but he cant seem to keep the consistency he did when at HRT.
HRT's domination of the late 90's and early 2000's was because they had a superior budget and access to wind tunnel testing in the UK because of Walkinshaws ties with F1. I am not bitching because they won, yes the racing got booring seeing the same driver win all the time, but they won fair and square and didnt cheat. If HRT hadnt won like they did then you would ask why cause they had better paid engineers and more resources.
In the end i support the drivers, i dont care what they drive. I personally would like to see Tander or T Kelly win this year if Russ doesnt win, and he wont if he doesnt pull his finger out. I think if you put Rick in another team he would do stuff all, its the team doing the work not him, yes he is a good driver he wouldnt be where he is if he wasnt but you need a good car under you to win, look at skaife now, what has he done, he hasnt won a round since NZ last year. Matt
Alot of parts are now control parts so have to be sourced from outside as certain companies are contracted to supply them, such as the gear boxes which have been for some time. Brake rotors, callipers and pads are all control this year, well the pads definitely are anyway. Its all to stop one team having an egde and make the racing closer, and more so make the racing cheaper so the lesser funded teams can compete. Matt
Pay TV put in a bid but it was decided that to many fans would be alienated because not everyone has Pay.
Holden Motorsport supplies alot of the engines (or the Tom Walkinshaw Group which ever way you look at it, thats who supplies HRT and Toll HSV's engines.
For a better part of the 90's and 2000's over 1/3rd of the holdens in the field has Perkins Engineering Engines cause Larry was the only one who could make one that would last, why do you think he has won bathurst so many times, only 2-3 retirements in all those years. Matt
Leigh Diffey was good, and Mathew White who co-commentates with Crommley was a commentator with 10 for the V8's until he moved to 7 a few years back.
I think Grant Denyer needs to be used more, he is a top personality actually races the cars in the second teir level. He was absent from NZ, which i can only assume is because he is filming that stupid Australia Has Talent crap.
I have found the 7 coverage to be ok, i to noticed the glitches in race 3 like Phil pointed out, but i think there are **** loads more adds, at least now you dont miss a handful of laps during the adds like you did with 10. Matt
Might take you to task on that one, Cam.
Having been around the OB biz for 35 years, (and a former director of motorsport) there are some differences in the telecast.
You are largely right about the OB supplier(s); however, editors as you quoted are obsequious on a live broadcast.
The current 7 coverage still seems to have the ghost of Mike Raymond lurking (and no disrespect to the Raymonds).
Network commitments and churn and crunch are changing the telecast, to its detritment....
7 went into damage mode when the event appeared to get close to 'swap' and as organised with the promoters called the race a timed event.
which is bull, the primary broadcaster had other commitments looming.
acquisiton of the event has a not so hidden agenda
signal dispersion from NZ would also explain the many gripes about b/q
7s new program unit will gradually learn that unless the fans are happy with the broadcast, then the reach will diminish, which we are monitoring

Wright Pattern Shakespear, they are a financing company in WA i think, Craig Gore is the founder, he owns WPS motorsport and is a the Co-owner of Team Australia in Indy Car.
I agree they do seem to call it out for no reason, Bathurst is the worst, the sand trap at the chase is so big when a car goes of they could impose local yellows send the tractor out, drag it out of the way and off we go, they could learn alot from F1. Matt
